Lifter recommendation?

Hi all

Just bought an AU2 XR8 and it sounds like at least one lifter has seen better days (still to confirm).

I was surprised when researching how much a set costs! Would anyone warn me away from something like this:

For how cheap you got that XR8 I’d be putting some decent lifters in it. Hopefully that fixes the issue and if not it’s not a huge deal for how cheap you got it. Good pickup mate.

No disadvantage at all mate, you got the car for a really great price. I think regardless of the condition of the engine it was a great price and you did well.

Don’t skimp on cheap lifters, get some good ones. You will probably find it’ll be as quiet as a mouse once it’s done. New tires, exhaust and it’ll be good for rego.

Check for broken valve springs, similar sound to crook lifter and is a known issue on the gt40p heads.

Those lifters are good, and pretty much what's in there from new, can go 1/2 mil k's trouble free.
These are slightly better and can be revved a bit harder, but not really needed - M-6500-R302H.

As someone else mentioned, it could also be a broken valve spring, and is actually more likely.

Thanks Sox, I did find those H lifters later last night, probably worth the minimal extra spend, bit of insurance for future upgrades

Since talking about lifter replacement, does anyone know where I can get the procedure for lifter replacement and proper adjustment of the rockers. Manual I have is the same as on the Tech Resources. Just shows SER1, and I'm looking for the 220 motor.

The 220's had these - M-6500-R302H, so if you throw them back in you shouldn't need to readjust.
The replacement procedure is the same as any AU Whinger.
The RR's bolt on the same way as the stockers, no adjustment.

I've got Crow 5300H lifters which are supposed to be a replacement for the original lifters.
To tension down the rocker bolts (30Nm), what position does the crankshaft have to be at. Thinking TDC would not be right as the pushrods would not be at the lowest point of the cam lobes, but maybe this does not matter as the lifters are hydraulic. Do the exhaust and inlet have to be tensioned at different positions. Thought they had to turned down about 3/4 of a turn after tension reached. But maybe I'm thinking if single rockers.
Also thinking of doing the springs as well ( got a set of Crow replacement). Anyone recommend a good spring compressor. Found one in US (LMT) but not sure which one I need. Sold here at Outlaw Speed Shop and are around the $380 mark

Have not replaced lifters before, that's why the questions.

If the lifters are the same dimensions as the original lifters (and they should be), then no adjustment needed.
If the height is slightly different, then you might need to farnackle around with shims.
Wind them down about 0.030" preload.

TDC is is what you want, otherwise you won't get the lifters out on the corners.

Just pulled off the rockers and pushrods and found a problem.
The rocker on No3 exhaust was loose. When rocker removed the exhaust pushrod came out with it. It seems the cup that the pushrod sits in has been pushed into the rocker arm, giving it the excess movement. Pushrod end is marked.

It's happened before.
Just chuck another rocker and pushrod in.

Some say they YT's are crap because of it, but that's a load of bollocks.

I've got another set of YT rockers in the shed but they seem to have a bit of what appears to be pitting on the roller for the valve. Is this a problem or ok to use. If a problem, can the pin that holds them on be removed and use the roller from the faulty one.
What pushrods would be the best to use.

Minor pitting may not be a problem.
They can be knocked out easy though, but only one way as one end is splined.
Just use stock pushrods.
