Default SPOTTED!! new Territory in Thailand!

Hey Guys,
Walking to work this morning in Bangkok... Spotted this great looking SUV in traffic, thought it was an Escape at first. As it got closer, realised it was a new Territory!!
Could it be??! Ford reconsidering exports to Thailand?
Car was black, with very dark tinted windows, i couldnt see the driver.

Like i've posted in a different thread... Thailand still likes its big cars. As you can tell from the photos, falcon/territory would look right at home there.

On the topic of Aussie cars in Thailand, if you have seen Hangover 2, the car they were in looks identical to an Aurion (as distinct from the Camry).

Was it?

Thats what I immediately thought... evaluation vehicle.
So what does that mean exactly? Do Ford just do it for the fun of it or could they genuinely be testing it for the market there?

Most likely, as South-East Asia's 'premium' Camry is our Aurion (but badged as a Camry)

I doubt they would need to evaluate that, it would be pretty obvious...

That would explain why the Camry's look so big here. I'm sure they are as big, if not bigger than the FG and they are popular. Falcon/territory would work here.

Seems like a timely find.

It was only a week or so ago we had a thread wondering if Ford would reconsider exports to Thailand, since both the new 2.7L Territory and 2.0 I4T Ecoboost would not be hit by the over 3 Litre 50% registration tax. http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11353905

The other option is that it could just be a private import. Do they allow that over there?

Camry / Aurion are the same car with a different boot / bonnet...

Bit like a Statesman vs a Commodore..

Not really as a Statesman is longer than a Commodore. The difference between Camry and Aurion looks like mostly bolt-on stuff. Same wheelbase, same roof, rear quarters etc.

Statesman and Commodore were on different wheelbases, it wasn't all just bolt-on bits.

Yes, that thread was fresh in my mind when I stumbled across this today.
I was really looking forward to Ford exporting its local product to Asia and was bitterly disappointed when it all fell through. Seein the Terry this morning gave me hope that it may be back on.

The new Territory really is a great looking car, especially compared to the bland Toyota, Nissan and Mazda offerings currently choking up the Bangkok streets. It really stood out this morning and caught my attention from quite a distance away.

Thats why I said a BIT like Commodore / Statesman...

Share pretty much the same architecture, just with some differences.

I was going to type a long winded post about how an Ecoboost Territory would do well there but then I realised it would be competing with the Everest and would probably cost twice as much.

Nice spotting. I agree that it doesn't look overly big and seems to blend in with the rest of the traffic.
I don't see why FoA couldn't send the TDCi Territory to Thailand. Toyota sell heaps of Fortuner's over there and those things are basically a Prado sized vehicle which run a 3L turbo diesel engine. The Territory has a smaller turbo diesel engine and is a smaller vehicle over all. I reckon it would sell.

But as people have said, it's probably just an evaluation vehicle as I can't see Ford ever wanting do anything that would actually help their bottom line and make FoA look good. They seem to want to do the exact opposite.

Thanks for sharing the pics mate.

Yes, it's the Bangkok Skytrain (BTS) system. It's very good, much faster than taking a cab and getting stuck in traffic.
