Anyone knows how overhaulin actually works, like who pays for all the work that gets done to these people,s cars???.I mean there are a lot of workers and businesses that are involved here...

Advertising is usually the backbone of such shows.

Many businesses would be doing it for free - think of the publicity it generates for them.

^^^ this. The work involved would be going on tv's world wide. So sponsorship is key to something like this working. I would assume Chip would be donating a lot of his personal time to help keep the show running nicely.

The fact that the pranks on the 'marks' is entertaining has me glued too.

isn't that something, it was the 'pranks' that annoyed me so much that I stopped watching. Not having a go at you Blue Oval, just isn't is funny how different tastes are?
I did like the cars, but wondered as to the overall quality. Maybe Overhaullin' 12 month later could be an interesting spinoff.

Id imagine the TV production company forking out a fair wedge of the cost. 100K per episode would be cheap TV.

understand what your saying mate, no harm done. If it were just on car stuff only, to me I'd probably fall asleep. I like seeing progression of the builds but to get too deep into builds may turn others off where I see the pranking side of things helps break that up a bit as its a surprise to the mark. the reaction a mark may have is what I wait for the most. Seeing the reaction of someone who highly values their pride and joy and being reunited with it in a better than ever condition.

I agree that advertising would be the main driver.

Also I used to wonder with Pimp my Ride, how they always had absolute bombs and how they went on and on about what they did to the paint and the interior, yet never mentioned mechanical work.

Surely they would of had to of done intensive mech. work to make the cars reliable and no longer a death trap..

Sorry for going OT.

Pimp my ride very rarely did mechanical work. most cars left the shop with the same engines brakes etc. Id believe a spray can job would be about it for the engine bay. There were a few rare occasions which sometimes lead to the car being written of same day or being broken into not long after the show aired
Im not sure who they were kidding, giving kids who had proven they couldn't look after a car all that bling
Funny stuff though as to what was considered cool...

Im sure Chip makes a lot off that show selling it to the network. All the parts would be free too. Notice the immense product placement all through the show. its like an hour commercial.

His time is worth alot of $$ and he wouldn't be doing it for nothing.

Pimp my ride was a joke, the cars are just tacky by the end of the show but that's what their owners wanted. They did have an episode where they revisted past cars and most of them had been in prangs, had panels missing (again), no more chromies etc etc the owners just don't care.

Overhaulin' on the other hand did do an episode revisiting the old cars and every single one was how it left the show, absolutely pristine.

As you can tell, i love overhaulin' but hate pimp my ride! I like Xzibit's music though :P

Slightly off topic. I met Chip Foose a couple of years ago at SEMA. We were in line for about an hour and right near the end of it. You would think that he would have been sick and tired of signing stuff by the time we got to him but the exact opposite occured. He was the most freindly obliging person I have ever met. He posed for photos and even asked questions and engaged in a short conversation. Some so called celebrities should take a leaf out of his book. A true gentleman.

Foose is real hard to pick, on the show he comes across a bit ...um...I cant put my finger on it. Stiff maybe, Dont' know but Ive had a not so good feeling. His cars are interesting though. And Probably as it's a different type of show comes across a lot better than Coddington ever did in his bit of drama.
The learning Channel pays for the parts, workers pay and shop rates etc. Some parts are donated for on-air promo-banners in background or even live mentions

I think Chip worked for Boyd at one stage. I noticed some of the guys who worked for Boyd now work for Chip.

Saw in an episode of West Coast Customs, Dwayne went to work there, but quit after the Boyd tribute car. He spat the dummy and didn't turn up for the reveal.

Yes I believe they were business partners which ended badly. Coddington had all sorts of issues. yes there was a mix and match of some staff, a whole episode or two of American hotrod dedicated to the painter Charlie wanting to do a one of with foose. Oh how sad that i know all that

Man drama!

There was an episode of West Coast Customs where Ryan criticised the quality of work that his garage pumped out when they were partners with PMR... I guess GAS just like the advertising...

I really enjoy Overhaulin and have most of the series on DVD, would really like to attend SEMA one year to meet Chip and the crew but if he is coming out that might have to be close enough for a while.

Lately ive been getting into Fast 'N' Loud, probably enjoy that more than Overhaulin in that its probably a bit more realistic than all out Showcars and it does without the pranks and alot of the BS.

I HATE queuing in lines more than 5 min..
At Sema you would have to wait hours..
There was a line 200m long and he wasn't there !!
The show hadn't started..From memory he was showing a supercharged Dodge..

I wonder how many times Chip has been to Australia, if he has before that is.

I'd give the left one for the chance to have a Chip Foose modified car.

His design philosophy of mods that catch your attention in the fact that you can tell something is different but you're not sure what, is amazing. I don't think there's a single car of his that I haven't totally loved, and would more than happily take off the owner.
