This is terrible news , I'm his age , I have 2 sons the same age as his, my deepest sympathies to his wife , boys and family members.
I didn't know him , I'd met him a few times buying parts for my car, a terrific fella who was passionate about his work and this showed by the results from his GT restoration work.
We have all benefited from his hard work either by a restoration of a car or simply watching an entertaining and informative programme that he presented to us in a manner that came across more like a friendly chat with good mates.
Your presence will be missed by many ............Safe travels Neil....God speed.

Just in case anyone is wanting to attend Neil's funeral here are the details.

His family has organised a car cruise for Neil in his Honour. We will gather at 9am, Monday 9th of Feb
Location: Ford Motor Company
Address: Ford Drive Campbellfield. From the Ford Billboard down.
The Hearse will slowly drive past at 9.30am
The cars closest to the Ford Billboard will be the chauffeur GT’s for family and closest friends. The front line of chauffeur GT’s need to appreciated that a return time will be agreed.

Neil will cruz down Ford Drive at 9.30am and stop at the Ford Billboard for a minute.
We will then congregate behind in an orderly manner.
Let the cruz begin.
We then follow Neil in honour past Grand Tourer before heading to Hanging Rock in Woodend, where Neil could see the peak of Hanging Rock from where he lived, in his last chapter.
This drive is approximately 80klm, so fuel up prior. The first section of the drive will be the most complicated. Please be patient as the majority of the experience will be on the highway as a group together. The question is ‘how long will this line be?’

Expected time of arrival at Hanging Rock is 11.00am.
Neil’s race car will be on location as the starting grid for the line up of the cruz’ Please follow the lead, there will be friends of Neil there to help guide and create the
‘Ford Line Up of Honour for Brother Neil’.
The Ceremony for Neil Thompson will commence at 11.30am. Silence please
At this point we need to show the Thompson family the ultimate respect possible. This family are the most welcoming, supportive loving country folk you will ever come across. They are catering for 500 people.
BYO drinks, food and chair.

Anybody behaving in an unrespectable manner will be asked to leave.

The support team on the day will be Neil’s mates.
We will be helping guide the event as smoothly as possible. The number of vehicles participating is currently unknown.
Lets work together, and show the family the respect Neil had achieved.
Together we will leave a lasting imprecation for his boys Jordi and Jake to treasure for life.

After the ceremony people are invited to leave a mark on Neil’s coffin, ( Silver Fox with Orange XWGT Strips). Write in ten words or less, the impression Neil left on you.

Neil will then proceed on and leave us to continue celebrating his life.
This celebration will be with Artist’s Neil knew from St.Kilda, Video presentations capturing his life with lots of story telling to share.

We need to respect the guidelines enforced by the Parks of Hanging Rock with the time of exit.
