After the Falcon has gone, what are we looking at for Taxi Fleets?
And also commercial fleets like commercial travellers who used to love the Falcon Wagons. All I can think of, is the Skoda Octavia Wagon which is used OS as a taxi. Which means a VW based engine platform. Small 2.0 Lt capacity engines can't stack up to the inline6? Camry is a 2.4 litre engine, but the hybrid's electric motor kicks in to give it considerably more power when needed. Subaru Outback as a Taxi? Or what about 8 seater vans? I would be interested to hear any opinions based on research and common sense. The taxi operators have to think about long-term running costs, practicality and maintenance well beyond ordinary consumer use. Whatever vehicle wins out (and I hope it is not going to be just streets full of Camry Hybrids) will change the vehicle landscape of the ever popular and familiar Falcon sedan and wagon. This is my first post, so would the TROLLS just move on. Thanks for that. Steve Harrison. |

the falcon wagon has been gone for years, all those fleet buyers have moved on already. i struggle to see what the purpose of this thread is. it has been discussed so many times before |

Take a break from the Big Apple and take a trip to Gosford.
The Camry’s are starting to show their face but the bulk of Taxis here are still Ford Station Wagons and filthy old dilapidated things they are at that. My guess is Camry's will eventually take over. |

Well point me in the direction of those discussions. I have read the forum widely and not come across discussion of the replacement beyond a few mentions of the Camry.
Simply wondering if there are going to be any alternatives to the Camry such as the Octavia or the Outback or is it going to be all Camry. Steve. |

The old operators of the New York Vic Crowns put up a legal fight against the Camrys in the beginning - now look at NY.

There was a Taxi operator in Brisbane who went against the Camry tide and bought a fleet of VW Passats.
The Passats had a similar platform to the Skodas and used the DSG transmission (as opposed to the Subarus CVT). |

I've been regularly seeing a MD Mondeo wagon taxi around the northern suburbs of Perth.

When I was driving 25 years ago they made a rule that no taxi could be more than 7 years old. That's when we got rid of the 76 XB we had at 930000km. Must have repealed the law. Anyway the future of taxis is UBER. Gosford has kind of died since Erina opened. Was much more vibrant in the 80s. Imperial and Marketown were happening places. And don't forget Froggy's LOL

Camry taxi buyers get a government subsidy/rebate of some type because they are a hybrid.
The 7 year rule (it was actually 6 1/2) has now been rescinded under a raft of changes to the taxi industry (in NSW) due to Uber being legalised. Dr Terry |

Some of the new members of late are very touchy when the green monster is mentioned.

Mostly TROLLS so far but to those without issues:
For a while there, forum discussed the replacement of Police vehicles. Taxi and fleet operator vehicles would outnumber police vehicles by what? Fifty to one? Yet there has been little or no discussion at all about replacement fleet vehicles. |

Only learning from the best, my apologies if I have offended... Back on topic....Whilst I agree the Skoda's would be a viable option, I think that the Aurion should also be considered as a strong contender....
