Hey everyone,
Im looking at getting a 08/09 FG XR6T in the next few weeks as its time for an upgrade... I went to a Ford dealership (in SA) and they do a 3 year unlimited kms warranty... They say that is mimics a new car warranty... Im not 100% convinced on this at all and im not too familiar with warrantys and how they work.... They said its with Allianz ?? Anyone got any info on this and if its worth spending the extra money getting it? Cheers |

Before getting it, get them to give you a copy of the terms and conditions.
These warranty’s, have claim limits. Also some have limits on how much you can claim per year etc. Read all paperwork they have on the warranty before purchase is my best piece of advice. |

these are typicaly rubish
they have claims limits, and excesses, will only be drive line and limited "fair ware and tare" is a line they like as in yep the trans is rooted but its done 400,000km so its fair ware and tare what the head gaskets gone at 220,000 thats "normal for make and model" you are typicaly limited to where the vehicle is serviced and repaired (Read their over priced service department) and if you dont get the services done in accordance with their document the warranty is worthless

Yeah like everyone has said read all the terms and conditions before you agree. I did one with ford and I had to have the car serviced there. Overpriced isn't the word ridiculously overpriced for servicing is more likely. But I did claim a few things and they were honoured, with no fuss or arguements. I've sinced bought another car and got the same type of warrenty, but made sure I could take it to anywhere to be serviced. Which I have claimed on again with know problems

Its a service provided by an insurance company, they are not in it as a benevolent act , they're in it to make money, a lot of very smart people have worked out that on average you will pay more than they pay out.
As for value to you, it depends on where you sit in the average. |

I got conned into buying one of these warranties back in the late 90's when I bought an EB Fairmont. Mine had no conditions or limits that I can remember, plus I was working at a Ford dealer at the time, so I got my money worth several times over.
The air conditioner stopped working - so it was repaired the Ford Dealer way - by replacing components until it works again. Compressor, Condenser, Evaporator - every single part of the system was replaced, one after the other, on the hope that it would fix the problem. It was a V8 as well so the parts (all brand new genuine Ford) weren't cheap - the whole job came to close to $8k! The service adviser just told the warranty company that the compressor died and sent metal shavings through the whole system. Pretty sure I got head gaskets done as well under the warranty at some point. So thats my advice if you buy it - get on real good terms with the mechanic/service adviser who will be repairing the car. |

Back in 2000 I purchased a mint EF XR6 series 2 sedan, paid $24500 for it and then the car yard talked me into an extended warranty for another $1700, I took it and was so happy I did, diff went (my fault) but they covered it, both front power windows went, they covered it, AC went, they covered it. Money well spent and this wasnt from a Ford dealership.

I'm pretty sure I had the Alliance extended warranty for my AU. was an extra 1000 for 4 years. In 2 years I prolly claimed atleast 500 (new alternator and other bits) then sold the ute after only having it 2 years. A written letter to them saying I wish to stop and they sent me between $500-$600 because I left early.
With My FG I also go the extended warranty, but it's only 2 years. Got a new diff and power steering so far. All problems fixed with no worries So for me they have been worth while

Hrmm, mixed ideas on it now, but thanks everyone for your info and help!
I might just get the warranty to be on the safe side, but get someone else to have a read of the policy i printed out. Thanks again! |

Yeah mate, just read it. This is actually the first thread I've read where everybody hasn't said they aren't worth the paper they're written on.
I think it's probably nice to have but if there are claim caps and restrictions to servicing location then personally I'd want it to be very cheap. Also if (as someone mentioned earlier) they can claim wear and tear I'd like to know who gets to make that decision (I'm going to assume the person in control of the yes/no button....)

Ok so looking on the web, took me about 30 minutes to find the PDS. They are not avaliable on the allianz website it self. Which to me shows that Allianz do not want it easy to find the PDS for what is covered and what is not covered.
Also to make note this is not a warrenty it is an insurance policy. From what I read any warrenty that is offered by an insurance company is in fact an insurance policy. There is a section in the policy that states that you must be honest, so speeding fines and such may be asked. Also it does say if the car is modded you will not be covered, this could mean if you change the rims, exhaust etc, the warrenty may be voided. http://www.1alp.com.au/pds/Allianz%2...e%20Policy.pdf On page 14 of the above PDS. 4. How much we will pay If we agree to your claim under Section 1 “Repairing or replacing components of your vehicle”, the most we will pay in relation to any one claim is $2,000. The most we will pay for the total of all claims made during the period of insurance is limited to the purchase price of the vehicle as declared on the policy schedule. Furher down in the PDS, it stats that the $2000 includes GST, and if GST makes it go over they will not pay more than $2000 The site I got the PDS from. http://www.1alp.com.au/pds.php |

I got an in house one, diamond warranty, worked out well for me.....but after a while it came down to "fair wear and tear"
but by this time I had got my moneys worth well and truly........ the 3 month warranty provided by the car yard was not worth a cent without the influence of consumer affairs..car dealerships are very hard to deal with

Hi mate, noted you are in SA. If its with Jarvis STAY CLEAR as its not worth the paper its written on. I have had a very bad experience with them and will not be returning to them no matter how good of a car they may have.

Keep in mind the price of warranties are usually marked up 100% by the dealer. They purchase the 3rd party warranty from $200-$800 then sell it to you for $400 - $2000. The warranty / insurance company needs to then make money from selling a $200 - $800 warranty over the next 1-5 years. We need to be reasonable when we make the claim and why they can be difficult to approve a hight value claim.
My advise, it's always to go for the highest level of cover available and haggle the price of the warranty. There is no reason why the dealer cannot settle for 35% mark up when there is no holding cost of the warranty to them. Last point: Make sure you have the option of going to your chosen mechanic (this is agruably the most important point).
