Default Exhaust size

Hey all just after some opinions, i have an au xr8 ute putting out 188rwkw for now, my question is my exhaust from cats back is dual 2 1/4 and was wondering if i went too dual 2 1/2 would it be ok, there are guys using this dual size and is working fine also most exhaust shops i have spoken to say to go for the dual 2 1/2 so when i get some cash i will look into fixing up exhaust.

regards shaun

Well it would be a dual, but exiting through one tip. I don't think that there is room underneath the fuel tank to run a second pipe...

if you read enough on these forums everyone seems to think twin 2 1/4 is the way to go, but yesterday when i was down at bluepower with chris he told me me im better off getting a twin 2 1/2, reckons the windsors loves that setup,... and who am i to disagree, the man knows his stuff... by the way what mods do you have to pump out 188rwkw??? my au3 xr8 ute only put out 145 standard, edit gave me and extra 12rwkw's pushed me to 157.1, and a mean shift through the auto, getting 2nd gear wheel spin was worth every cent, :p

True - at high revs, but you may sacrifice some low down torque.

chaser - all AU XR8s come standard with dual pipes out the back - they just exit on the RHS only. So technically they are not single tip, but single side exiting twin pipes and tips (real twin tips, not the ricey copies on 6s, or single 3" systems on their V8s - like me).

Twin, 2 1/4 is plenty big enough for a 5L Windsor. Its all about gas speed not how big the pipe is.
With 188 rwkw you have a very healthy 5L there I would not go bigger. There is a lot more perforance made out of the headers than you'll ever get out of the pipe size of the exhaust.. :gren:

Most T3 owners in/around Sydney run stock exhaust, or Liverpool exhaust. But the T3 is 5.6, not 5.0.

What do the 5.6L run? I have twin 2 1/4" pipes but am halfway through building a stroker. Simply can't afford to go bigger for a while but sounds like I should at some stage.

Hurricane Headers are the way to go (apparently). They are Liverpool Exhausts own brand, but are now sold nationally - just saw an ad for them in Street Machine.

I & many others including a few AU XR8 owners all run Hurricain headers. The guy that did all the R&D on these headers owns a 5L XR8 & developed the headers for that engine. When the 5.6 came out he bolted a set on & found they worked so well with the stroker he didn't have to change a thing.
