Unhappy I see Chinese made MGs everywhere!

They've come from nowhere to this in only a couple of years. Anybody drive one or purchased one?

There is a house around the corner from me that has 2 or 3.

They park them out the front all the time.

Cheap, decent features, known brand, doesn't look bad, cute colours etc.

If course they are selling well.

Having said that the MG dealership in Chullora was vacant a few days ago.

Wondering what happened there?

Is a rubber bumper Midget a real MG? What about a Magnette or Metro?

You should ask this on a holden forum. I bet people that would have usually bought holden junk like barina, cruze, captiva etc are probably buying them.

This is great though, I hope MG does well and soon do equally well with electric cars.
Then 5 years later when the rest of the car is junked I can get a cheap pair of motors, controllers and knock a few sets of batteries together and find enough good cells so I can start electrifying classics on the cheap.

If they are selling they must be doing something right.

Most people just want cheap transport, since that is the primarily function of a car, if they get 5 years out of it most are happy. Cant blame them, factor in a tight economy etc and the days of your neighbor bringing home the new Calais or Fairmont Ghia are long gone.

Exactly, Cars are no longer the Aspirational Purchase they once were... Nowadays they're simply a means to an end. (getting from A to B)..

Yep, have driven a HS model (the smallish SUV, CX5 segment size I'd say).

It was comfy, quiet, had all the mod cons you would expect and seemed to be built fairly well. And can be had for thirty grand.

Unsure why the OP is surprised they are everywhere.

I have a couple of real MG's, one nearly 60 years old and the other 50, and in a club. There are a number of club members now with these Chinese MG's, these car people are very happy with them, so far. One couple has had theirs for probably a couple of years now, still very happy. Haven't heard any not so good words about them yet. Apparently they are designed in Longbridge UK at the old MG Rover factory.

I simply wouldn't buy one because of where it was made.
If it came from Thailand, Mexico, the Phillipines or where ever I would otherwise consider it.
Yes I still buy plenty of other cr#p made in China, but that's because EVERYTHING is.
Honestly, if I went to Bunnings to buy a drill and there was an Australian made one for $150 and a made in China one for $100, I'd buy the Australian made one.

If the government would encourage refits of cars as done with military equipment, it could support a lot of local industry.

Cant buy a standard Corolla / Mazda 3 or Focus for less then about 25 now and most start around 27.

I agree with your sentiment.

I am a audiophile wannabe- champagne taste on beer budget. Anyway been thinking of upgrading my SVS ultra "bookshelf" speakers for some new towers - new company in UK and its tower speakers are getting a rave review.

The version I was looking at was about $3,900.00 for a pair- but made in China. This set gets RAVE reviews.

Searched and found the company made same sized set in UK using slightly different tweeter- but essentially same specs and same speaker-company blurb says tailored top shelf bespoke blah blah but I know my ears will hear bugger all difference to the Chinese made ones, and the UK made ones cost- close to $9,5000.00.

Cheap crap- yeah, if you can buy aussie for a tool at $150 instead of $100 made in China- better quality- yeah I can see doing that. But for bigger ticket items everyone has a $$$ limit.

For now cannot stomach buying the Chinese made speakers and my wife would go ballistic if she found out I spent $10,000 on 2 speakers so for now plans to upgrade shelved.

I know Doc, I'm taking the urine over one of my previous threads where people were saying no one wants cheap cars so manufacturers are all pulling out of the segment

They are pulling out indeed but our Chinese 'friends' have seen a big opportunity the big players can't.

When I saw the newer MG's I felt they looked like a rushed version of a basic 4cyl or CUV to try and mix it with the rest of them out there. Dont think much of them at all tbh

That's half the problem, when you factor in smoko breaks, union fees, public holiday triple time rates, 3 day working week because CBF working 5 days , local transport fees...............a basic Australian made drill would cost $600.00... for the corded version. Cordless would still be a working drawing design.

Don't get me started on chinese fruit. I usually buy the Goulbourn Valley sliced peaches, but a few weeks ago they had none, so I bought the woolies brand. Got home and looked at the label as it said fruit imported from china. You fn what mate. They can shove that up their clacker. Which ironically would touch what they use as fertiliser in china. Human feaces

My fiance's brothers wife just bought one of the MG SUV's. I had to bite my tongue hard after I heard that. Wanted to say good job supporting the CCP you idiot
