O.K.
A lot of you have Mods done to your car and some of you have or want a turbo/supercharger Or even just want to Mod your car to get that extra 50rwkw out of it .. Well these are the new laws that Mister Plod and your Vic Roads and your Road Worthy Place in VICTORIA have and have to start enforcing them A.S.A.P. Not good news for me as my own car fails atleast 2 of these rules.. Now i will design my car around these new rules... Have a read through and see how your car goes . This is just the start of the new rules as i get them i will post up as well I will split up this post a few times as there are 10 pagers Cheers

Some of those rules arent too bad, but some are quite odd. 1. (c) for example, You may either have a pod filter or an intercooler .. but not both ? What, so does that mean the typhoon is illegal ? I know the typhoon is obviously a factory approved car that has an enclosed box around its pod filter and it says aslong as no modification has been made to the intake system but still states that an intercooler and pod filter are not permitted. I guess there will be some exceptions, but there are a lot of modified cars out there, let alone on this forum, that will need to change this.
Ahh well, I'll stay up in sunny queensland aslong as you keep your rules down there.

Bloody politicians who have no idea on what they are legislating on, but think they are doing everyone a huge favour, and saving lives in the meantime. Ask half of them what a pod filter or an intercooler is they wouldn't have a friggen clue, yet they still pass the legislation. Since becoming a law student, I really have started to see how screwed up the system is

yay i can remove my carbon canister!!!
apparently external wastegate's aint legal? do they mean externally venting waste gates (ie, screamer pipes, if so no dher) but damn, a lot of those rules leave no where to go. a lot of those rules seem to be slightly open to interpretation. "the tyre of conversion has ADR certification" i assume this just means engineering cert?

Yep a hole heap of them are .. you are right there B.J. Yes John Everyone has Diffrent interpretations and understanding of the rules so what i think is unroadworthy on a car and what some other place thinks is unroadworthy might Pass or fail John your car is straight gas ? i thought that you were going to get the petrol working on it .. If your petrol dont work then yes you have to disable the fuel .. Easy way i read the new rules is that all you have to do now to make your car comply is remove your fuel filler neck (so noone can put fuel into your car) and remove your fuel line to your fuel rail .... the old rules where you had to remove EVERYTHING to do with fuel.. tank, lines, pumps, injecters, return lines and canister.....These rules are easyr to apply

Do intercoolers, turbo's, supercharges and gear along this line actually play a role on emmissions also?
But could this just be another revenue raiser by the government? Or is it to lower the number of people who die on vic roads every year? It seems like a system of, buying a car stock, and leaving it stock. |

It seems a little bit extreme to me, like VicRoads has made up their minds that everyone should be in a Toyota Prius with a padlocked bonnet. Frankly I'm glad I'm in SA where things are a little more liberal.

Cheers heaps for posting, trick.
Good read too, I'm all for reducing pollution, more emphasis on smokey cars is great, but some of the rules leave questions. It would be great having an engineer's certificate in hand right about now, but keep as informed as you can as you don't want to be duped by the police (whom some don't know much about cars & some of their cars would fail these laws too). Didn't see much about suspension on the article, so I'm hoping it is fair, keep the info coming.

Hmm, I'm sure its been asked before, but why is an oiled pod illegal, yet a dry pod is not?

No way.
I just read it and in summary it says "No more fun with cars". Almost everycar I know no longer meets EPF rules.

I heard a whisper that the EPA in NSW are going to start cracking down heavily on performance ecu mod's in late model vehicles, and that they'll be hammieing the tuning shop's not just the owners. But it could be crap, anyone know anything about this.
