Question 50th Birthday gift ideas

Ok, I'm getting very desperate here, so this is like my last resort as I've been searching the internet and talking it over with my gf for weeks now on what we should get her father for his 50th birthday. His birthday is Anzac day, and the party is on the saturday night, so basically a week from yesterday to figure out the perfect gift that he'll be able to use and have as a keepsake or practical use item.

Basically I don't want to spend over $500 as i've got rego and a trip to sydney I've got to fund in a month or two, so any ideas at all would be greatly appreciated guys, especially from some of the more mature members of the forums.

Also note he isn't that much into cars, although he is a farmer (passionfruit) and enjoys practical things, not so much technological

Any help is appreciated

My Father in law turned 50 a few weeks ago, he has everthing he wants so we bought him one of these, he loves it, the thing talks/dances when someone walks past.

What about a home brewing kit with an engraved Pewter mug.

Hire him a sports car for the weekend, it's not a keepsake but it's a weekend he'll remember.

Thats not a bad idea, we were thinking about doing the v8 supercar lap thing, but it would have meant he'd need to travel to either sydney or victoria, a sports car is the next best thing, will look into it.

A bottle of Grange if he drinks Red Wine. A 1991 or 1996 will be easily available at <$500 and is an experience ++ for a wine drinker.

A card that says "HAPPY 21st" and then write on the inside "keep dreaming" or something similar. slightly evil but could be funny:P

We just bought my sister a skeleton clock for her birthday. 8 day clock made in Germany. Will just fit into your budget as well.

Some of those grandfather clocks are amazing, although they'd want to be for $4000
