No if you are figuring out the surface area of a rectangle it's length x width. If your working out the volume of an object, a cuboid for example, then it's length x width x depth. If you are working out the surface area of a triangel then it's half the base x height, or just divide by 2 at the end.

No! say you have a rectangle 2 metres x 3 metres that gives you 6 metres square of surface area.

TSA of a rectangular prism:

Taken from one of 1 million results from Google:

A rectangular prism has six faces. Its surface area equals the total area of those six faces. To see how to find the surface area of a rectangular prism, unfold one as shown below.

Since each face is a rectangle, you can find the surface area of a rectangular prism by using the formula A = lw six times. For the figure above, surface area = (10)(5) + (10)(2) + (10)(5) + (10)(2) + (5)(2) + (5)(2) = 160.

if its a prism (a 3D shape) its just the total surface area of each side

so rectangular prism

usually 90% of time is square based sometimes retangular and is always gonna be 4 sides the same and 2 sides the same

anyways if square calculate one square then times by 2 ie 2 squares on the ends
then do same for rectangles and times by 4 then add surface area.

hope that helps

To work out the area of a prizm, multiply the number of cells x the quadrangle and divide by the height of the walls + the length of the razor wire.
If you're correct, you get out of jail free.

Actually, you will find that gives you the volume, not the area.

FALCONSR is right on the money though.

:
Assuming its a regular rectangular prism:
Total Surface area (S.A) = S.A of four rectangular faces + S.A. of 2 square ends
4 x (length x height) + 2 x (depth x height)

Next question. Something harder than year 5 maths please

Treat it as 2 sets of 3 rectangles.
Work out area of each, add together.

Huh? How about THREE sets of TWO rectangles? As in THREE pairs of OPPOSITE sides!

Or 2 identical sets of 3 different rectangles (ie. 2 each of rectangle A, B and C). You say tomato he says tomato.
