Default Mondeo Zetec Hatch - Towbar

Ford as yet don't have a genuine towbar for the recently released Mondeo. When will one be available?

Have you looked into a 3rd party towbar? Genuine towbars are a rip. I got a Hayman Reese fully installed with cabling. It was half the price of a genuine installed.

Watch out for warranty issues. Not fitting the genuine bar means you aren't covered by warranty if something happens as a result of the HR one.

it's an option on UK mondeo's so try and get something out of europe if you can't wait for ford au to extract it from their behinds...

Default Towbar

I emailed Hayman Reese about availability of a towbar and their reply was "No, not at this time. It isn't a high priority." So maybe getting one from Ford UK is the only way. But would it comply with the relevant Australian standards? i.e. would my warantee or insurance be compromised?

I'm in the same position. When I picked up my TDCI in December they told me it would be a few weeks before the tow bar, which had been paid for, would be available. Waiting, waiting!

Default Towbar for Mondeo

I phoned Parkside Towbars in Perth this morning and they said they were in the process of determining if there was a demand for a towbar for the Mondeo before proceding with the costly (?) process of designing and testing a new towbar. So anyone in WA who is in the same position as I am might like to phone Parkside Towbars - (08) 9470 3633 - to register your interest and maybe something will happen.

Isnt it ironic that we have no approved tow bars for the Mondeo yet I'm sure I read an article stating that the Mondeo was recently voted in the UK by a caravan magazine as best "tow car".

I'd love to know how you can pay for a tow bar at the dealer yet it's not listed as an option, probably doesn't even have a part number here or have a price, i'll do some more research

Yes, that's a good point. My order form says " Price includes floor mats and towpack (round seven pin)". It goes on to say "THIS IS A LEGALLY BINDING CONTRACT" so I guess I'll be OK when they do get them in.

The latest news from my local Ford dealer is that Hayman Reese is currently developing a towbar - Ford has apparently supplied them with a vehicle - which is expected to be available "mid-March". Time will tell...

so Mani got an email from Hayman Reese on 4/2 saying they are not developing one at the moment as it's not a priority and 2 days later Ford say they are, sounds very interesting.... why would Ford not get the tow pack from the UK and have it approved for Australian use, i couldnt see there being too much work in that, and i am sure EU standards would be greater than here? 500 pound option for either the fixed or detachable tow bar on the Ford UK site...

Had a phone call from my local Ford dealer this morning to say that towbars for the Mondeo are now available. That includes the levelling kit for the 1.6 t option.

For the TDCi Hatch it is $980 for 2300kg with load level kit & $850 without and 1600kg limit. This is Hayman Reese kit.

Is this what Ford should be quoting me for a fitted unit? I am going to find out on Monday, just don't want to get ripped.

Cheers

Got mine fitted as part of the deal. I think it is rated to 1600 kg. All good, did have to wait for a module to stop the car burning to the ground (apparently).

Wouldn't be Hayman Reese, it'd be Genuine Ford (and warranty friendly) wouldn't it?

This Ford Dealer is a Hayman Reese outlet.
I was under the impression that Ford would just stick their name on it.

Incidently, Ford did this with a Thule pod that I obtained for my old Territory.

Well I got the genuine Ford tow bar without leveling kit for $800 fitted. There was a diesel hatch there with one fitted and it looked real good. East enough to remove the bar/ball section and it would be hard to spot that there is a tow bar at all.

Ok, I stand corrected. This dealer is a Hayman Reese outlet but here is what I got from the dealer...

...Now I have checked the origin of the tow bar. It is classed as a genuine Ford Motor Company tow bar. Having said that Ford itself doesn't make tow bars, just cars. The company that makes the Mondeo tow bar, among others is a local company from Ballarat called Frontline Bars. They also do most bars for most makes and models in Australia...

I Recently had the following quote for an aftermarket towbar for my MA TDCi Hatch

Hayman Reece only have one style of bar to suit your vehicle,Mondeo MA Sedan & Hatch (NOT XR5 MODEL)$579 fitted inc Gst. This towbar has a capacity of 1600kg and is the thin strap style tongue and does not compensate for reverse sensors.

Can anyone advise if fitting such will cause me problems?
