Thought I would start a thread.

The car represents the fourth generation of the Focus nameplate and is expected on sale next fall, as a 2019 model. And this time around Ford will source the popular compact from a plant in China.

We also have a shot of the interior which looks to be very different to the design of the current Focus. Dominating the cabin is the infotainment system's display screen located at the top of the dashboard's center stack.

From modifications seen on earlier test mules, we know the redesigned Focus is slightly longer and wider than the current model. This should lead to more space in the cabin.

Apart from this there isn’t a whole lot of info on the next Focus. We expect the formula to be the same, with the car once again coming in hatchback, sedan and wagon body styles.

A variety of powertrains should also be on offer once more, including performance-oriented options for successors to the current model's ST and RS hotties. The entry-level option should be an inline-3 with fuel-saving cylinder deactivation. This engine is also featured in the redesigned Fiesta.

It's not clear if Ford will continue to offer an electric option. That's because the automaker is expected to launch a family of electrified cars, possibly under the Model E name. Furthermore, Ford in January confirmed plans to add a compact electric SUV with a 300-mile range to its lineup by 2020.

Key rivals for the Focus include the Chevrolet Cruze, Honda Civic, Mazda 3, Subaru Impreza, Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Golf.

These images are based on a best guess. The exterior photo has been suggested on a rendering of what the car will look like based on the spy photos. The interior photo is based on the EcoSport interior which may look like the direction that the new Focus may take.

I think it's going to look more like the new Fiesta than the EcoSport. EcoSport interior is a compromise between the existing Fiesta-based interior with the new Fiesta's screen and centre stack - it just doesn't gel that well.

From those spyshots, the rear looks a bit VW like. Not sure if I'm sold on it just yet but wait and see once it gets closer to release I guess.

Whenever I see a screen like that it makes me wish it would fold down and into the dash for when you don't want it visible.

Better get used to it, seems to be the trend amongst most brands these days.

This design should supposedly make it easier to reach (touch screen) and is positioned to be as high as possible without obstructing the driver's view.

Rear reminds me of the Kia Stinger.

The interior screen looks like it's integrated. i mean, not like a screen stuck to the dash, it has it's sides covered. Or is that just disguise??

That's an impressive little engine. 92 kW of power and 200 Nm of torque.

I'm really keen to get my daughter into a current model titanium,BUT should I wait until the newer model becomes available ???????

We've had a few Focii over the years, and I still drive an LT as my daily.

My lad was set on the current sport, and we did a few test drives. Nice car.

He ended up buying a Hyundai i30 SR premium for $33K. It's an amazing car in all regards, and begrudgingly (as a Ford man) I have to say it's a better car.

This new Focus, (and I have always thought Focus set the bar) will need to be better than the Korean's effort, including price.

Victor, worth having a drive of an i30 SR. The difference between the plain Jane i30 and the SR is chalk and cheese. Mind you costs a bit more.

Is that the turbo version. It would have more grunt than the 134kw/240nm of Focus plus be lighter -Focus is quite heavy.
You are dead right next Focus has to be better. I am tending to think Ford is losing its way. Its a mugs game to rely on just 2 cars for sales ie Ranger and Mustang. If we had another recession the sticker price on both these cars will frighten punters away. Looks like Ford have given up on Fiesta in Australia. I hope they don't give up on Focus. I hope we get the next model.

Apparently Ford is launching lots of hybrids soon. Most likely there will be a Focus hybrid here to compete with Toyota's range.

Funny you should mention hybrids. I undertook an ownership survey for Ford recently and there was a lot of questions on attitude to hybrids.

A focus hybrid would be marvellous although once Ford premium pricing policy kicks in probably uncompetitive.

I want a plug in hybrid so that I can just use the batteries on the drive to work, charge it at work, then drive back on the battery, but also have the benefit of the combustion engine for longer trips.

The silence regarding the new Focus, and Fiesta, is just about deafening from Ford.

I know Ford have had some bad luck with the Focus and Fiesta recently but to just about give up on well known and critically acclaimed models names is disappointing.

Ford, and industry annalists may site that they are focusing on higher profit models, SUVs and performance cars but to not have a proper full line up of products they are missing out on large chunks of the market who don't want a hulking Ranger, an impractical Mustang or SUV.

I'm not to keen on your impractical mustang comment due to the fact I have one,or should I say my wife's daily drive.
But I totally agree with every other aspect of your post.
As a totally committed ford supporter and I am prepared to pay more to stay with the brand,more should be done to support the supporters.

I have a Mustang too. I suppose my comments are in relation to it not being suitable for everyone (lack of rear doors/rear seat room.........boot is massive though!)

And that's the thing they will be missing out on, the whole of life buying. Perhaps someone starts in a Fiesta, moves onto a Ranger or SUV then downsizes to a Focus later in life.

Confirmed pretty vaguely at a dealer level. (by Ford to the dealer body) Rough timing announced, no further detail which sucks a bit!
