Default Power Steering Pump what a rip off

So my power steering pump is leaking from the front and read :(

Anyway rear is an easy fix just buy a replacement high pressure hose pffffffffffffffft

Easy fix but not cheap.............

I have been to two differemt places and cheapest i can get is $350 fitted with New Pump and New High Pressure Hose

I got quoted just for the pump $220 and $250, at ford its $270 or was that the hose was $270 and the pump was $350, cant remember

NOW I look on eBay and a genuine ford item brand new is $90 plus postage, with the pump drive wheel fitted it totals $110 plus postage

WHAT THE - 100% mark up thats bullshit from Ford and these two other repairers, prob 200% from Ford

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Most ebay sellers are working from home with little and at times no stock as they just act as a seller and get it send to you from a wholesale wearhouse. If they have stock they have it in a garage or shed out the back, they have no rent costs, no insurance cost, no workers comp, no phone bills as they use the net and the list goes on. Big thing is with a ebay seller is trying to get warranty on the item as most only do a DOA warranty so if it works when you get it but fails after a few weeks you are on your own.. Plus you have to post it back at your cost if it stuffs up and pay postage for a replacement to be sent back to you. Depending on where they are and postage times you could be without your car for a week or more.

Would of been a fun drive.............lol The steering is very very heavy without the power, like you have two front flat tyres

I certainly know the feeling! Earlier this year, the car went through a stage where it was throwing power steering belts. That sucked very much.

I'm actually planning to get a brand new power steering pump for mine. My current one has started seeping a bit. The ebay ones sound appealing. I should be ok fitting it myself, so that doesn't worry me.

fitting the pump is easy.
2 nuts that hole the 2 lines on
then between 2 & 4 other nuts n bolts (depending on the model...3 is stock i think)
remove
replace
reverse all the above
fill & your done.

Make sure you get one with the drive pully wheel fitted as if you dont have the right tools you wobt be able to remove the old pully from your old pump and replace it onto your new pump

Here is the pump you get for $90 off ebay, I paid extra $20 to have a new pully wheel fitted to it

rebuilding a power steer pump is very simple. pull it apart, check clearances, replace seals, re-assemble and pack with petroleum jelly. this will only work if the pump itself is not damaged (not whining) just leaking. rebuild kit is about $10
