Default Ford Everest catches fire on Test Drive

Oh dear, I hope this is some strange anomaly and there isn't the need for a recall. Not a great story in the launch year of the hero SUV in the line-up.

hard to say, could be anything, could be a 20 cent clip allowing a wire to touch something it shouldn't
..... or something more serious, it will be interesting to see if they can make anything out of that burned out shell.

So they don't know the cause and yet Dowling feels the need to drag ranger in to it as well. Nothing like creating a bit more negativity toward the brand.

It’s not all bad news, going up in flames at a bus stop was handy.

"“A mum with all seats occupied with little kids or babies would have struggled to get them all out, especially if the thick acrid smoke wasn’t being blown to the side by a strong crosswind,” said Mr Barnwell."

Lets look at this for a moment...no kids in the front seat, you'd only get two infants in the back taking into account the need for a pram rendering the 7 seat function redundant, I don't think mum would have a problem getting a couple of children out the car.

Talk about a beat up!

After seeing pics of the cargo space with the 3rd row up ... there's plenty of room for prams.

Although do agree re: shoulder/width being narrower than Territory ... so lucky to even get 3 child seats across.

Either way .... not easy trying to get screaming kids out of a car quickly on the side of the road while flames get bigger.

With the amount of things going wrong with my Ranger I wouldn't be surprised if it went up in flames next.

They are buckets of the proverbial. One thing gets fixed and another goes bonkers - all electrical.

Surprised it hasn't gone up already. Kind of wish it would then Ford would maybe do something more than a bandaid repair.

Hmm happened around the corner from my house, I was unaware I lived on the central coast.

Also 100,000 Rangers possibly affected? How many years have they been out for now and how many fires have there been?

Question Re: Ford Everest catches fire on Test Drive

If that was caused by an electrical problem it makes me wonder what circuit caused it, the only ones which aren't fused is generally the starter motor power wire, some of the OEM wiring I've seen on some cars makes me wonder.

Where i did my apprenticeship, one of our Ambulances burst into flames because of the way one of the guys ran the auxiliary battery positive wire allowing it to dead short on the battery tray, it was looped behind the tray to make it a bit shorter, it was covered in split tubing but it was rubbing enough to rub through the split tubing and insulation on a 2BS wire, it went up in flames in a patients driveway.

After that happened we had a 500A Mega fuse on the whole system and that wire had to be secured in a particular way.

Wiring is the easiest way to burn your own car to the ground, I see a lot of aftermarket stereo installs with questionable practices.

lets see, same production line, same drivetrain.... yeh you're right. there's no way another vehicle with the same drivetrain and built on the same production line could be affected by the same issue...must be a media beatup

Personally I am surprised you didn't accuse Dowling of dousing the vehicle in fuel siphoned from a nearby Commodore, that had been specially prepared by Holden for the job and then setting the Everest on fire as a media stunt by the Australian journalists association who signed a blood pact to always undermine Ford. Perhaps that's the next post.
