This is the comment below the first video:

Could have been handled a little better from both sides, but forcing your way on to the track is definitely the wrong way to go.

I've posted this video to provide a little clarity to the incident.

This is the begining of all the controversy with Summernats claiming that Steve Nogas did not Qualify for Sundays finals because he did not obey the fire marshalls directions, claiming the fire marshall told Steve not to start the car after it stalled when contact was made with the fence, then claimed to tell Steve to shut the car down once he re-started it. Clearly you can see at 0:48 we hit the wall and at no point did the fire Marshall tell us to shut it down, The Fire Marshall then signaled to the approaching tow vehicle that he wasnt needed at 1:49 and waved us through to exit the pad at 2:02 of the footage. Summernats have since told us we never qualified on friday but at 2:21 you can clearly see the official give steve a qualifying ticket and saying well done mate.

i was there and at the time i thought the burnout crew bloke that dragged him from the car was a ****** but now knowing what happened i can slightly understand why he was annoyed. However could have handled it better. We wont see him next year. On the letting him run depends on why he was disqualified, if it was something that was a danger to him or the crowd then no. With the hit on the rear from Friday possibly worried

What do you mean 'could have been handled better from both sides'? He blatantly disobeyed instructions and even pushed his way through those officials with the car so he cops the penalty - it's as simple as that. IMO, he got off lucky as he wasn't charged for attempted bodily harm...

Would they have given a qualifying ticket to a car that has hit the wall pretty hard? I thought that's something that burnouts are judged on.

Either way, it seems all parties involved could have handled the situation better but controversy does get it the publicity.

The guy who kicked his car and then grabs him at the end of his burn-out was a total knob! No need for that, even if it was controversial. He should be banned from future 'Nats aswell.

Here's the solution, they should have told him he could run but just couldn't win. Then he would have done a killer skid and the crowd would have loved it and the officials couldn't have really cared because he was unable to win anyway.
I know if I ran burnout comps it'd be about the burnouts, not silly rules and stuff.

Well after watching that qualifying video i dont think there was any problems with the fire marshall.....but watching how he drove straight past the marshalls they was pretty rude and dangerous.

If you look on FaceBook Steve himself has appologised for his actions.

I think that the qualify burnout was ok and he didnt do anything wrong but his second attempt was a bit wrong, but then there was a hero of a marshall they shouldnt have slung steve around.....oh Well THATS SUMMERNATS AINT IT!

Either way we ALL now know who Steve AKA Nuking Futs is now!!

Great idea in hindsight.
Problem is the ego's of ****** part-time marshalls who think they are policemen for a day!

He still disobeyed the officials directions.
Look at the video, how many times did the official signal him to stop/stay where he was?

A conversation with a fire marshal could well have happened out of earshot of the camera. The tow truck came in to tow but was waived off and was directed to exit. Would have expected him to do it calmly, not proceed to do another burnout with guys standing near the front of the car and on the wrong side of the armco.

If that's the sort of quality one needs to qualify though, must be slim pickings since I last went a couple of years ago.

He should have followed the directions of the marshals the second time around and the guy kicking his car should sit the next Nats out.

I bet Burnout comps 15-20 years ago they would'nt have ever cared if he kissed the wall slightly in qualifying...cos back in those days all the officials cared about what a wicked skid and not much else.
