Is there a source for this information? I can't see them doing it to save money as the sticker cost would come out of our registration payment anyway.

Rego stickers are waste of time and dont mean anything neways..
Whats the first thing poilce do when they pull you over, a REGO check. The Rego check reveals if the car has current registration. Therefore having a sticker on the car to prove its registered is a waste of time.

Its going to be interesting to know when a customers car is regoed or not!
Guess we will have to charge more cause we will have to rego check customers cars before test drives etc.

Are motor trade/repairers going to get easy access to rego checking?
Are there any WA Motor trade people out there?

We have a website where you enter the rego number and it will tell you the expiry.
Works great here!! https://online.transport.wa.gov.au/w.../registration/

The cops already have all the info before you have even pulled over anyway so i dont see a need for a sticker.

I think it is a great idea, no more stuffing around changing sticker for absolutely no reason. The cops have computer consoles in the car that they run rego checks on so they do not need a sticker to prove rego, so why have it.
As for the motor trades, well two options here. Either have the website like WA have which sounds like a great idea but would cost something to maintain. Or have it that people just have to present rego papers when required. Seriously it is not that hard, we all need to present a license occasionally, we do not have a sticker stuck to our forehead.

Makes great sense to me and I hope it happens here in QLD, rego stickers are a pain and look tacky.

The only time I can see how the sticker would be useful, is for selling a car privately, respective buyers can identify the current registration expiry

Many states do not even put registration or VIN on the labels (QLD does) so what is the point? An unregistered car might have a current label on it, from another car. Only a fool would not check the registration certificate and do a revs check anyway.

Being from the other side of the planet - totally agree with Tucool, no replacing rego stickers = totally clean inside wind screen.
It was scrapped in WA to save the printing costs. The police already have the technology that takes the place of the rego sticker. You guys should be looking forward to it, the hardest part is getting used to the new registration papers being posted out without a rego sticker. |

SA govt are saving 5.6m but still making you pay up to $2 more in licensing and rego fees. Im not saying $2 is a big thing but here they are saving millions then they raise prices on you.. is SA getting a few road or highway upgrades or something? doubt it, so why the price increases?
i like the fact you can rego your car in SA for 6 months, why get rid of that and only have 3 or 12 months? |

The down side to no rego sticker, is those in the motor trade that actually drive other peoples cars.
The law is fairly clear that if you are caught driving an unregistered car, you're in the poop. You have a date with the courts, which you loose your licence for a couple of days, cop a fine and the car is impounded for a few days as well. I actually check that a car has a current rego sticker on it. If it doesn't, I just don't test drive it when I align it. The customer is also informed that I haven't driven it, therefore if the steering wheel is off centred, or it doesn't drive straight, there is no come back, whereby I'll fix it for free. And yes, I strike the occasional unregistered car too and I'm not loosing my licence for a couple of days, nor coping a fine, just because they can't be bothered paying the rego, or even if it is registered, putting a current rego sticker on the car.

I think they should abolish rego fees all together and put the tax onto fuel. makes more sense to charge people for how much they use their cars, rather than the mess of charging per # of cylinders and commercial or personal use.

we've had the no-sticker thing here since 1 Jan this year. the only down side I can see is that they send out the renewal a couple of months in advance. usually that means it gets stuck in the bill fine and forgotten until it's due.
at least before the sticker was a reminder. I can see some people losing the renewal notice and completely forgetting since there's no reminder stuck on the windscreen... the clean look is better though, and not having the hassle of cleaning old stickers off is good. |

I am in Victoria and every single vic regged car has the chassis and engine numbers plastered right across the stickers for mr. scoundrel to jot down, then use YOUR car and your eng/vin numbers to obtain finance which he has no intent of paying back, then mr. lender comes gunning for the car he has lifted the numbers from, or you go to sell and cannot as the car has a debt on it, this can and does happen and I suggest all victorians check their vin/eng numbers on their vehicle to make sure there are no "debts" on it that you didn't take out imho if one must have registration "sticker" dont plaster the vin/eng numbers on the thing but I can hardly see how they are needed what are number plates for again

The only problem i've come across (in WA) is that the department of fail and infrastructure sometimes forget to send you out your renewal on time. I got mine in the mail the day after it expired. Having the sticker on the window makes it easier to remember I guess, but I can imagine most people who don't pay attention to their cars would drive around unregistered until they got the letter.
No real problems with it otherwise, and you don't end up with ugly glue patches on the window. |
