Hi All,
I posted this over in the electrical forum a few days ago but I thought I would try it over here as well.. I have been doing some hunting around for some time on the subject of how to easily make the cigarette lighter only turn on when the ignition is switched to accessories or beyond. I have a bluetooth device that will just drain the battery if left in there and I am not interested in just unplugging it every time I get out of the car. So.. with a bit of help from my multimeter I have found out that one of the 2 trailer towing module power supplies at the fuse box is only active when the ignition is on. My question to you all is can I just use this power and redirect it through a fuse to the cigarette lighter? Or is this not capable of running my 12v? I just dont want to draw too much from something if its only supposed to be small draw.. fire is bad! Cheers! |

Are you saying the cig lighter is permantley on?
I've never seen that before. If this is true I need to disconnect the GPS. |

I've had Mazda's, Holden's, Suzuki's, Eunos's and have never as any accessory stay on after the key had been removed.
It certainly is a "Ford thing". |

09 one does it as well. just don't plug anything into it.
I don't think it's just a Ford thing as my work car (falcon) doesn't do it.

My 07 WQ didnt, But my 12 WS 'Metal' does, Could it perhaps be a Ford Germany 'Thing'?
As a result of leaving a phone charger plugged it, how long would it take to flatten the battery?

07 WQ was German so it can't be that.

Same deal in the new Ranger. You would think if they were going to do it like that in the Ranger they would make one of the 2 live all the time and one only with accessories.

Just bought an 06 Fiesta and plugged a dash cam in to the cigarette lighter socket, only to discover that it is permanently on. Obviously not an issue if you unplug it after driving, but if i leave it plugged in, it also keeps the dash lcd screen on, and the stereo light on? Has anybody got a firm solution for this yet?

There are wiring solutions available.
Require a double fuse plug that is then plugged into a slot that switches off with ignition. The wire output is then plugged into the "cold" side of the cig lighter fuse block. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-x-Add-A...item463e212daf I have the unit but havent got around to installing. |
