eBay Australia has revealed plans to more than double its fees on some auction listings, effectively penalising non-professional sellers.

The days of eBay as largely an online garage sale are finished as the company pushes sellers away from second-hand auctions towards listing new items in the fixed price format and on eBay Stores.

But as consumers and mum and dad sellers typically run one-off auctions as opposed to opening their own stores or setting a fixed price, they appear to be left worse off by the upcoming changes.

From September 22, eBay Australia will scrap insertion fees for the first 30 items listed for auction in a month. Insertion fees currently range from $0.30 to $3.50 for most items (excluding vehicles).........

Wonder if we will see some new auction sites pop up now?

I tried to find 'live help' and I think it is no longer offered. It directs you to the automated help where you type in a question.

So I typed in "What happened to live help?" and the automated thinggo didn't understand the question.

Yep... unfortunately the monopoly is strong enough to destroy any competition.

In kind of, semi-related news, Amazon recently purchased The Book depository, which offered free shipping anywhere in the workld from the UK. Just another case of monopolies smashing competition wish size and then hiking up charges.

Just sell on forums, doesn't cost you anything, someone will be interested in something regardless if its something not related to the forum.

Doesnt seem to be many items listed in the non-auto area but I`m all over the parts section as the BA I want comes up for sale shortly.

Gumtree seems to be full of crap though. I can show you a BA on there for sale that is the biggest piece of crap you have ever seen

Not much in there, but if you joined other big forums, with for sale areas, not just automotive ones, and listed all the items across each you'd have a decent audience.

By multiple items I read that as saying in the one auction. ie: Say I have 17 Broncos stubby holders, I can list them in one auction, and the auction price is for one stubby holder not all 17. You choose as a buyer the quantity you want. After Sep 22, I wont be able to unless I have a store, or powerseller etc.

Seems to me they are trying to focus more on the people who use ebay to earn their living. The average punter trying to offload a waterbed or whatever will be stung on the sale price by an extra 1.65% of final price while being let off the measily few cents for a $0.99 auction start price.

E-Bay also munched up sold.com many moons ago too.
It's going to make it harder to get the stuff I've had access to on E-Bay if we lose the Mum and Dad sellers.
