Geez, if you hadn't said you were running XP I would have thought you were running 98 :/ . I can't think why XP would do this , but as a 'guess' off the top of my head I would be thinking a power supply problem perhaps, not shutting off. Pity I'm 600 clicks away otherwise I'd loan ya one of my spares. But I guess another reinstall of XP wouldn't hurt just to see.

They didnt for me, my copy is definately legal, but they dont do any checks or anything you just contact them by email. But it might be like stealing a bike then going to the store asking them to fix it. Email for you will be aushelp@microsoft.com

I suggest you do a scandisk to see if there is any bad sectors on your hard drive, causing a bodged XP install. If it comes back clean, try reformatting it again and see if the problem goes. If you still have problems after that, try zero-ing your hard drive, gives a gaurenteed clean slate. It basically just sets all the bits to 0. There are numerous programs on the net that'll do it. Go to your HD manufacturers website and they can point you in the right direction.

Actually, just had another brainwave, have you installed any other software yet? A process/thread might be running in the background and the computer won't shut down etc, until its finished. Try uninstalling any software one by one that you've put on so far.

Try unplugging all the boards, RAM, plugs, one at a time, and replugging them. Might be one dodgey connection that's picked up a bit of dust/corrosion that's making the system hang.

Cause thats wat i thought i was gonna instal on there. I will uninstal them and instal the windows xp ones. See if that helps, i really dont want to reformat
