Strange but I''ve been keeping a look out for AU's signng up for Friday night at Calder over the last few weeks and no-one seems to want to run them.
Is there a reason? I know I love going to the drags (never get to go enough but a few times a year is good). So, why arnt we racing them?

I know you will Dan, let me know when too, I'll come race with you.
As for the rest, I'm starting to see a trend towards looks over performance lately in the AU camp. I'm all for great looking AU's of course but where the fun in looking. Get on the track, go hard and enjoy the car.

I dont know. They shouldnt be shy to run against faster cars, its all in good fun.

What can I say, oh thats right: What a load of crap. If I wanted looks I'd build models. As for my $30 sunnys, they do well and I get to spend more on REAL things like go fast bits. I must be weird, I think the stock XR6 looks are great, just needs more go and less weight.

The AU can go just as good, just need more people to take them to the drags and let them go.

Well to be honest I have got the car back with the box fixed, but Im kinda superstitious, being in the building game and all, and it is still a bit tight through the changes.
Next week for me I think, but I might go down for a bit of a looksie one of the VSU boys is in the 11's now with his SS ute and their is a rumour of psssssst going in during the week so would be interesting to see. |

Well I'll have my eb against mainly BA gt's, xr6Ts, gen 3s, it is a little embrassing but yeah I don't care too much. It will be good to see what it runs on the strip and be good fun. I'll be racing against my owns times not the other cars!

I was just saying that every cars biggest opponent is its last PB. Comparing cars is not really worth anything, its not like its NHRA competition, its about having fun. If people dont want to go because they think their car isnt fast enought to compare to others they are missing the point of it.

The reason I don't send mine down the track is because I don't want to drive all the way to Ipswich just for a couple of runs and all the way back again.
If they had something at Lakeside, I'd get my mate who has a AU + TS50 bodykit to come and have a go...

From my perspective there's not the same following in NSW that there is in Vic for the car clubs to attend these runs (with maybe the exception of V8owners forum). Its a pity. For me, the runs are on at a crappy time. Same night as uni for the g/f + scrutineering finishes too early.... Damn you WSID, why no street meets on sat/sun nights ??

A TE cortina with a modified 250 X/F with holley 350cfm and 3.9 mini spool that my son built pulled a mid 14 sec. I rather build a cheapo car for the strip than destroy my AU. buickman |

Its sems that too many people are put off by the serious drag racers.
You can go to have fun with your daily driver and enjoy it just asuch and bracket racing is still a good race. I went to WSID for the day with the XR6T crowd and a few N/A 6's and it was good fun. I just went and drove it off the line like a traffic light grand prix no burnouts on my good road tyres no flogging the family car to death just run it up and doen the strip a few times for fun and it was FUN |

Exactly, there's no need to fry the rubber if you don't want to really.
How far you wanna punish the car is your own choice. Not once when I first went did I ever get pressured into having to do stuff to my car that I didn't want to. Its all good.

No thanks.
When it's the only car you have, why risk damaging it at the drags My old man has built a 71 MGB and almost completed a clubman racer to race at major tracks in SA and interstate Watching him race and helping out in the pits is fun for me. As for the AU, rather keep it looking sweet than race it.

Same here. I got no need to go to a track and thrash my only daily driver.
Rather just look after it and own it for longer with less spent on it. Plus, If I started going to the track and racing against my PB\s. Eventually I would be chasing better PB's and hence upgrading the car in a never ending cycle to beat that elusive PB. Not worth it in my opinion.

I wouldn't mind running mine down the track one day just to see what it will do but I'd rather do it with as little people around as possible, I'm not one for crowd's, and Calder's to far for me to travel anyway.

I prefer the heathcote meets, no need to wait in line for ages for only a few runs. No pressure and its easier to race on a weekend where you dont have to arrange to get to the track after work.

I've only been to Calder once to race and only got 3 runs, compared to 20 when I go to Heathcote
