almost every time i read a review in the media about the Falcon. its almost always mentioned about the Taurus replacing it?? I've missed something i'm sure.. I've never read or heard of anyone from ford saying that. I remember the Falcon possibly sharing the same plattform as Mustang in the future it that was mentioned as a possiblilty. I'm sure i missed the announcement about the Taurus. the way people go one as if it has been confirmed. If it was going too be replaced why would ford spend so much money on two new engines and an update in 2014?? I think the media personally just trys too make things worse then it really is for the Falcon!!

....Mulally told Australian media on the eve of the 2010 Detroit motor show that the company was no longer looking to build unique vehicles for different markets and hinted strongly this week that the next Falcon will sit on a global platform. “Our large-car strategy is the same,” said Mulally. “Ford is going to have a complete family of vehicles: small, medium or large, utilites and trucks. “We’re going to have a Taurus-sized platform. We’re going to have a large sedan going forward.... Refer: http://www.caradvice.com.au/153524/f...itory-futures/

people just jump on the taurus name simply because that is the large car in the states and they assume falcon is dead and ford australia will be going full import. they also totally misunderstand the 'one ford' strategy. |

The clowns in the motoring media who are on the Taurus bandwagon are conveniently forgetting that the Taurus is itself due for replacement as having a large sedan based on an SUV platform is inefficient and unsustainable. The car is huge. It's an SUV in the shape of a sedan. Ford know this and will move the nameplate to a longwheelbase version of CD4, but that vehicle (LWB CD4) won't be available in RHD...

People might find it interesting that FordNA own documents consider the Falcon a medium sized car, and the Taurus large.

The American Fords don't really do it for me. The European Fords (with the exception of the Focus which reeks of America) definitely do. If the Falcon absolutely has to go (I don't think it will), cap off the range with the Mondeo. Hopefully Ford of Europe get their handling mojo back for the next gen car. I might even grow used to the looks.

Me too. I love the look of the new Taurus but its too heavy, too poorly packaged and drives the wrong wheels with engines that are fitted the wrong way.
They should ditch the east/west engine and transaxle but keep the AWD versions tailshaft and rear diff fitment. |

How about for the 2014 FG update the Falcon receives the Taurus' rear end styling and the front receives the front end stying of the Evos concept...would look better than the Taurus ever could.

I'd take the front end styling, not sure about the rear.

O.k, I am going to throw in a rumour that is actually more like a hidden agenda that is even better than Taurus being the new Falcon.
"As the Falcon is considered medium sized, the reason that V8 Supercars are going to the states is a Joint venture push to pave the way for exports from Oz with the Falcons and commodore as since the toyota badges success in Nascar, thier (GM & FoMoCo) current US offerings are seeing thier market share being eaten by Toyota Camry and they have nothing that is rear wheel drive to compete." How is that for a positive rumour? regardless how little truth it carries

Well back when they sold Taurus's here (late nineties?), Ford apparently was watching sales very closely and this very subject was being whispered about back then...until one of the big motoring magazines (can't recall which one, butI know I still have the issue somewhere in my vast collection) ran a feature article on a comparison between a Falcon and a Taurus, headed something like "The comparison they didn't want you to see"...it was narrower, slower, shoddily built like most Yank stuff of the time, and expensive for what it was. It in no way equalled the Falcon.

I remember a spread on a car mag comparing the imported Taurus to the local Falcon (EL or EF???)... Words to the effect of 'Taurus to replace Falcon?' or similar... was across the front page. They did a comparo of specs. Dimensions / power / performance / safety / servicing costs / storage space etc etc etc... was the main feature of the magazine... I still remember the Taurus ads... something about being able to go for 100,000km without a major service or similar??? Thats where it started IMO... Someone would have a copy of the mag floating around I'm sure!

I know I've got that one, but I seem to recall it had the car facing the camera and the heading was something about "the test (comparison, whatever) they didn't want you to read". I distinctly remember buying it at an Autobarn when they had a small magazine rack on the counter with Wheels, Motor, and a couple of others, and I knew the manager. He said it was a great read and the Taurus wasn't all it was being talked up as being.

I knew that rumour had been going for a while but didnt think it went back that far!! WAForce8 under one fords global plan that could be a possibilty!! plus with the new chevy SS or whatever its called (VF Commodore). ford would have car over there too compete against it!! makes me lean towards the mustang sharing falcon platform rumour. unless ford make a rear wheel drive V8 Taurus?? |
