Far out mate.
That movie Day After Tomorrow is looking more like a documentry than a movie each day, the worlds weather has lost the plot.

Some sparkies need a pat on the back there. How often does Penrith flood? I can't recall seeing it on the news before?

Last flooding episode was around 2006/7.
South creek burst it's banks and water was over the bridge on Dunheved road and the Colonial golf course was under about 3 ft of water. FYI the creek runs about 5 metres below the bridge normally. Didn't effect the Penrith CBD as much as this episode. My street was totally under water (only a few inches above gutter level) but most houses around my area (Werrington Downs) are typical 70's construction where floor level is 3-4 foot above the ground. But this was prolonged heavy rain over a few days and it's subsided quickly. Latest episode dumped 90mm in 2 hours last night. Was again dumping down this morning at 3am.

I live in "the Derry" and I went down the back last night to watch the water from the dam over the back overflow like it always does, we did a AFA on the BRT at arround 9 and I never gave the rain another thought and went to bed, woke up thismorning to hear Kochie call Penrith "the Riff" (god hes a tossa) and then saw all the flooding on the news, I drove through the village thismorning and didnt see a lot Torkington & Nutt Rds copped it pretty bad and Carrington Rd was closed at the creek other than that it wasnt much to write home about

Family friend's house got flooded out ... and lost his car as well in Londonderry.
I heard on the radio this morning (Triple M) about Sinclair ... as one of the guys there called in reporting the damage there. I haven't seen anything like that in the area since I have been up here ... it's pretty full-on. In the Eastern Side of St Mary's ... and my wife said the rain was pretty hard most of the night ... kept waking her up. (I am on nightshift in Nth Ryde). There was a youtube clip of someone driving home from Penrith the other afternoon back to North Richmond ... and the conditions even then was bad. Picton copped it yesterday afternoon ... truck crash ... and main street/bridge flooded ... shops damaged. They haven't seen anything like it.

If you live in a gully ... buy a boat.
I was in Eastern Creek this arvo ... and it came down solid for a good hour ... at least my in-law's paddock aren't dead flat ... but the place had rivers of water through it ... only last an hour though ... but 55mm in one hour (measured on their property) is a decent effort. I live about 10 minutes away ... and my place was pretty dry. M7 was a carpark at one point this afternoon.
