Was it owned or driven by Peter Brock?
Otherwise it's a no!

Its super, super rare if it only has 21 years of history, considering the last VN model left the production line 30yrs ago.

The problem is that it's difficult for even the most cashed-up bogan to hold onto that level of cash.

Every rare aussie muscle car is worth $1 million.

If you listen to the clown auctioneers trying to reel in a sucker, who doesn't have a clue what the real values should be. Only the Ph3 is worthy of being 1 mil, and only the rarest of the rare of the others, or ones with significant providence.

A VN GRP A is only worth half that at best imo.

I think the VN ranks as the ugliest Commodore ever made. I remember the huge letdown I felt when it was released. Same goes for the EA Falcon.

I agree with Boss.

I could see a pristine, genuine GTHO Phase 3 going for that. Other than that, who knows.

My old man had a VL Walkinshaw when these came out, so I was watching them then. At the time, they looked nice, because it was fresh. New shape, and all. Coming from a period of boxed lines. As a Ute guy, the VN was fresh. But the Toyota Lexen was a cop-out.
I owned an XE S PAC, (at the time, wishing it was an XF or EA Fairmont Ghia). Fords were always cheaper. Mates with Holdens, were from the wealthier suburbs.
What were the sayings? Fords rusted, but we’re reliable. Holdens broke??
Holden buyers didn’t have an issue paying more back in the day. And it seems they think the same today. There’s a huge Holden fan base, so I expect there are quite a few of them that are cashed up. Holden’s racing success. And Brocky (Polarizer or not).
Factor in Collectors, Cashed up Bogans, BoysTown Lottery type buyers, Boomers, Powerball, Crypto, Successful Business owners, and sadly someone with Cancer. I reckon this type of auction will achieve more than the car is worth.
That’s my opinion (a humble Ford guy).

Why do you have to prove that you simply just don't get it in every thread about a performance car from yesteryear. Every thread like this you have to prove you are not a car guy, you like appliances.

If your guy would value that at $15-$20k he has demonstrated he has less idea than you about the real value of classic performance cars - might be what you and he values it at, but not what the market values it at (as proven by the bids). Imagine the owner of this Group A, or owner of a Phase III, taking advice from you or your guy as to what they should take for it.

Comparing an i30n with a VN Group A; comparing Camries with Phase IIIs...stop, please just stop!

Fellas, this is why you never go full Fiji.

But let’s unpack it a bit, 215kw and 411nm? 0-100 in 6.4 seconds. By 2021 today’s standards it’s nothing, a family man in his Hyundai i30n would mow it down. That i30N for $39990 comes with a 5 years warranty too.

Of course the vn group a is rare and has some nostalgic novelty value but only a sucker would pay for it. There is a guy I know who gives you the real value of a car, no sentiments, no history, just assess objectively what the car offers comparative to what you can buy today for the money. He would offer $15-20k for that car if it has 12 months rego and a full tank of fuel.

Go buy a wrx for $15k (or a VT2 GEN3 or a BA XR6 Turbo) and it makes that old vn thing look silly.

It’s like buying a black n white Nintendo game boy from 1980s for $15000 when you can get a current Nintendo switch for $399.. kills it in every way
Seeing as a Phase 3 takes 6.9 seconds to get to 100, and takes 14.4 to cover the quarter mile, I’d hate to think what your guy would offer for one of those!

Fiji would slag-off a Phase III for it's lack of sound-deadening and the amount of engine noise that enters the cabin.

Nooooo -it's the lack of 7 year warranty that a $30,000 Asian box on wheels gives you.

The old there's a guy I know who'll pay what a cars worth
Spoken like someone who has to have the newest and best.
You go buy ya I30
Then join an I30 forum.

We all know cars progress get better over time, but comparing an I30 to a VN GPA is just, stupid. They are chalk and cheese.
If they were both priced at the 40k. Take the VN any day of the week.
Also power, it's only 25kw shy of the first BA turbo and there's 20 odd years difference.
I'm not saying it's worth the asking. But the comparison you've made is stupid.
Also it's worth more than 7.5k also as you've point out.

If we're talking museum piece examples, one with only 1,000 odd kms sold for $210k in 2018, whilst in this one is in great condition there no way it's worth over 500k, 1 million is just a crazy number for a VN commo

Things are worth what people are willing to pay for them at any given time.

As a former VN v8 owner, well Id rather a 488 pista if I wanted to spend hundreds of thousands on a car but thats just me, someone will pay too much money for that thing regardless of what I think, and the next buyer of it might pay even more.

I didn’t buy it. But there no way today I’d pay that price for the same car, with an extra 20 years aged, 20 years more km on the clock, and when I compare what I can get for similar money. I don’t care if it’s 1 of 300 cars or whatever..

It’s 180kw and 400nm and it’s an old car, no better numbers than a base fg Falcon xr6

Today id pay $7500 max. That’s what it’s worth, but people will pay outrageous prices for them. Nothing special that car, similar to group a VN
Nothing special

Right.
Stop comparing to newer cars re power.
They are cars from different generations.

It's not hard to understand.
