Have my new 2011 Mondeo Titanium Hatch.
My wife is quite short and cannot reach the boot lid when it is in the fully open position. Anyone else encounter this issue? Was thinking of some form of strap hanging down to assist her but the boot lid is pretty heavy so would require a decent attachment point. Suggestions? Ed |

Yeah, same problem. The first thing the wife said was "I cant reach that". It is very high - the ford design guys have overlooked this a bit I think.
A strap sounds like the go. If you do do something post some phots up, I'm sure there are others with the same problem. Something like a retractable cord mounted in the boot lip area running up to the hatch itself would be great. maybe like an inertia reel seat belt retractor or similar. Thatr way the cord would retact as the hatch closes, so no cord to hang out the boot when closed. |

Trying to keep it simple so an inertia reel is a bit too complex.
I was thinking of a loop strap connected to the boot lid by the screws which secure the recessed hand hold covers on the inside of the boot lid. They are only self tapping screws though but at least the weight would be spread between the two. If I get the length of the strap right the loop will hang down sufficiently for my wife to reach but would not be overly long and so could be tossed inside the boot lip prior to closing. Was thinking that nylon weave material like a dog lead or similar may do the trick. Just a thought at this stage. |

Bought a cheap lead from the $2 shop,
  Will see how it goes, currently pretty easy to flip the loop into the boot just before you close it. As to a new wife, 30th wedding anniversary this month

I never realised how high the hatch was until i opened it intosome overhead plumbing fittings for pipes. I can imagine this is a problem for short people.

Shortened gas struts? Can be purchaced cheaply while retaining factory look

If I were to go from my MKI Focus to a MKIII Focus I'd encounter the same problem as the first thing I noticed when I opened the Hatch is I had trouble reaching it. Bucky would know what I'm on about. XARATE, do you have a link to any website that sell aforementioned short gast struts?

Shorter struts sounds like a good alternative so yes I'd be interested in knowing availability too. Mine is a company car so I want to keep mods to essential only.

I have the same trouble and fitted a strap as suggested by others. I also find mine extremely heavy, not sure if I am getting weak or the struts have worn out. I have been looking for motorised struts, surely there are ones on later Mondeo's (mine is a MA)? If not, maybe some other vehicle would have them that would fit? If anyone would know of such things being available it would be most appreciated. You may wonder why I would bother with a MA, but it only has 30,000 and has after market leather interior.
