Default What do you do to keep fit?

In an ever changing world, and work and family commitments getting higher and higher, what do you do to keep yourself fit?

With my own business and a young family, I find it very difficult to commit time to this cause, yet it's one of the most important items to keep you going.

Share your secrets...

I walk. I have always been one for long walks, and a 5-10 Km walk of a morning with my Dog (Pet, not SWMBO) keeps us both fit. The Wife is a member of a Gym, and attends that 3 times per week, whereas I walk daily for the cost of the electricity in my iPod.

The Army enforces being able to do a minimum of 50 pushups, 75 situps and run 2.4km in under 10.48 mins within the <21 age bracket is sucessfully fit enough to remain enlisted.
So thats what I do, 50 pushups, 75 situps and run about 3-4 kms every 3rd day or so to keep fit. It helps alot plus strength increases. :

Nothing at the moment.. hence why I'm not fit. Planning on changing that sooner rather then later though...

i was playing squash and indoor soccer once a week. sadly, since tearing my ligaments, i am not able to do much. however, getting around on crutches has done wonders for my upper body. it is just a pity i will end up with little chicken legs :-)

Im 36 now Philbie and i find it hard to stay as fit as i used to be.
I try and go to the gym 3 nights a week, 20 minutes of cardio, ie; a reasonably quick power walk on the tread mill or bike. 20 minutes on the speed ball or bag in the boxing studio and about 40 minutes doing machine weights in the gym.
I am finding it hard to stay focussed and keep the weight off as i am getting older ( it's so much harder ) but you have to make yourself enjoy it. The best way to train is with a partner, or buy yourself a dog that has to be walked every night.
Your diet also plays a big part, cut down on the booze and the junk food and you will notice the difference

Im at the gym 2-3 times a week (only one day is usually cardio work though), play touch footy for 90 mins on a wednesday night, out on the golf course atleast once a week (work at one so made easier to duck out before or after work, just have to resist temptation to grab a cart, but time doesnt always allow a long walk)

then to top that off walk the dog and look after and ride the horses which is a gym work out in itself!!

Ok so you want to keep fit...what level of fitness are you after...if its just average then a 20/30 min brisk walk everyday will do it...if you're looking beyond this then you will have to go into aerobic and anerobic routines combined with a weights routine...if this is your goal I suggest you go to the local gym and get them to set out a programme for you. Good Luck.

Nothing.

I used to go hiking every second weekend, cycle EVERYWHERE and walk the 4 kms to the g/f's house.

Now I work full time, my bike was f***ed when I rode it of my mate's garage roof at his 18th, and am single.

Now I am just your average skinny little bugger with all the muscle bulk of a lemur.

Exercise??? Laying on the lounge, picking up one piece of chocolate from the Roses box, unwrapping it, putting it my mouth.... then the whole crazy cycle starts again.

Nah really I am trying very hard. I used to swim every weekday until my father got sick and I had to take care of him and mum for a little bit. This week I am going back to the pool. Half an hour a morning really makes my day so much better. And because I work so damn hard in the pool (well by MY standards anyhow!), it encourages me to eat healthily for the rest of the day.

I play netball on a Monday night, and I ref little kids' netball on a Monday arvo. Love netball. Would play it every day if there were enough games!

I do yoga on Wednesday mornings, and am thinking about taking up Tai Chi on a Sunday morning.

And I still weigh too much... I just don't get it.

Apart from goin down the coast for 2 or 3 weeks every year I dont do anythn in terms of excercise.

I just eat fairly good food. I cut out all the junk in between meals and lost 25kgs just from that.

I fit the couch.... does that count?

I play volleyball (65minute games) once a week... I used to run a 1 - 2km every 2nd day too before work but sort let that slip...

i have also started to make sure that i eat a healthy calorie controlled diet... that has helped keep the weight down... :baby bott
