Default Texas V8 Race - Falcon

do you think Ford with display any of the current Falcon/FPV range at the Texas V8 to gauge interest for the US? Maybe even to see what changes they may need to change should they export to suit the US market.

What do you think?

I personally think they should be as usual they won't

Oh sorry if this has been brought up before. delete if it has

I think they should but not sure they will. I'd imagine a fair bit of planning (+ $$) would be required to get the vehicles over there. Don't think Head Office would be all that approving unfortunately.

Would have loved to see some GT-RSpec's & F6's & XR6 Turbo's head over to see what reaction they get from the locals there. They'd need to allow some test drives to fully appreciate them though.

I doubt it would happen and I can't see any benefit given Fords longer term One Ford strategy.

Won't happen . It would need more than one showing at a Texas race meeting to generate enough sales to make it viable. Especially in a LHD market. That's why FoMoCo are now making RHD Mustangs which we should see next year.

I made a similar thread a while ago.
I've come to the conclusion that Dearborn will bury it's head in the sand on this one.
Unless:
a) The event is alot more popular than expected
b) The Falcon wins (unlikely given the weight penalty slapped on it, probably by Skumpfe).
I think at the very least more people will be aware of the model, and if the above happens it could equate to meaningful noise and give Mullaly, Farley, et al pause for thought- but they seem alot more conservative than their GM/ Chryco counterparts.

Chances are they already have Falcons over there that get evaluated by Detroit anyway, so they wouldn't have to ship one over if they wanted to do a display.

I don't think it's about Dearbon sticking their heads in the sand, its more about the feasibility of selling the Falcon in the USA.

Firstly, it's got no LHD so $$'s to develop and crash testing.
It's tech levels and styling is a generation behind.
There is already a large Ford sedan available.
It's an orphan platform/engine which means the logistics of selling/supporting it in the US would be a big issue.

and lastly, its an aging platform that almost certainly won't be used after 2016.

Theres certainly been FG's over there too -

i don`t think they would bother , as much as i like the falcon, it is a bit light on gadgets compared to some of their cars, it might be worth a shot after the update.

I dont think it does Ford too many favours putting a 5 year old design infront of the public to gauge interest. The race cars are different enough that the public wont pick on them too much and may be excited anyway by the racing action.

Stay away from TopGear if you want factual information.

Apparently the FPR Pepsi Max car is going to make an appearance at Texas. According to the Facebook page...and press release

Or is this a different event?

I would be shocked to see it happen. Heck, I have been lobbying to get Ford US to sell Falcon Utes for awhile and they feel their domestic truck sales will suffer. I disagree but thats me. With the relaunch of the Mustang forthcoming-the C-Max Hybrids etc, I do not expect anything.

This is similar to the continuing rumor that GM will start to sell Holden Utes as Chevys. Pigs flying, Aliens land from outer space, Government lives within its means, all seem more realistic!

would be cool if they did but dealers here don't even have falcons in the yards.
i saw an article showing a new lincoln suv (was a new left drive territory) but i think it was only in the US for engine testing but you never know they may do a deal if they bring the mustang here and falcon/territory there but doubt any falcon export will have the inline 6, more likely in V8 form only, why would they buy a 4 or 6cyl falcon when they have a taurus already.
ford US don't seem to have a 4 door V8 car or even ute available so maybe?

"Ford Falcon" is as appealing to the average American as "Ford Taurus" is to the average Australian.

When Americans hear "Falcon" they think small, cheap, underpowered economy sedan. (And that's just the ones old enough to remember the name.)

That's a Pep Boys tire now. Ford wanted to call the Fusion "Futura," but had let the trade name lapse in the US.
