My ute has been running a bit rough the last few days so I took it to the mechanic, they had to clean/overhaul the injectors because they were clogged by a gluey substance.
They were stumped as to what it could be, I haven't added any additives to the fuel since I've owned it. Also they couldn't change the fuel filter today because it's seized, so hopefully it doesn't reoccur Anyone seen this before?

if they couldn't take the filter off, I'd be guessing they're not the best of mechanics. worst case scenario they should be spraying crc and leaving it for a while, then cracking the nuts.
Injectors tend to clog up over time. Running injector cleaner is actually a good idea. BP ultimate keeps things in a prettty good state, but i still run GOOD addatives regularly

It's weird you say running additives because he specifically asked if I had used additives as if maybe that was the cause.

i said i was running GOOD addatives. I know what he means, there are ALOT of poor addatives out there.
I run Ultrafuel addative in every tank i remember to put it in. It has the Microglide addative in it aswell being an octane booster and injector cleaner. The Microglide makes it an upper cylinder lubricant as well as an injector lubricant. It's great stuff, made in WA. The Microglide is an excellent oil addative, i run it in all of my engines, and has worked wonders in the race car. But in terms of addatives that are readily available. The redline injector cleaner is the only other product I fully recommend. There are various different octane boosters you can get that are reasonable. The only oil addatives I use are Microglide and PROMA in new and old cars respectively. The reason the injectors gum up are the cocktails of addatives that the fuel companies put in to their fuels to make them 'superior' to other suppliers (in 98 anyway) Just get a bottle of redline injector cleaner every couple of months and you shouldn't have the problem again.

mate I just realised you're in Wa, if you're ever near the Karrinyup area I'll give you a sample of the Ultrafuel, you'll see what i mean.

Bit of an update, got the fuel filter replaced and still running rough.
I'm a bit concerned it may be running lean and everyone is now shut for xmas/new years. Should I put some injector cleaner through with the next tank?

I checked all the sensor plugs, the MAF and the throttle body. Got me buggered what it is, besides maybe a blockage in the fuel line somewhere.

hey mate, if i weren't leaving today I'd give you some Ultrafuel, becaue i know it will clear out a blocked injector.
Get some Redline Injector cleaner, that'll be better than any of the other products you'll find around the way. I'd also pull the intake off and clean the throttle body, because it's just as likely to be influencing your car. If you're still having troubles when i get back I'll give you some Ultrafuel and have a look at the car while im at it. I'll be back on the 31st. Good luck

It is only doing it at idle, worse under soft acceleration and gone under heavier acceleration

normally if ya crimp of the fuel return line & the miss get better its fuel delivery or injector problem...is it a dead miss like its running on 7cylinders....if so ideally you need to narrow down witch cylinder its missfiring on.....

I'm not sure if it can be the injectors because they got cleaned, unless there was so much crap in the fuel line from the dodgy filter which got changed a week after the injectors, that stuff has gone through back into the injectors.

Leads, plugs and coil packs all checked out ok.
I went to Auto 1 to get some Redline injector cleaner. They're the only mob where I am that carries Redline products but of course they don't stock it. I ask if they can get a bottle in for me "Ohh no we can't do that, we'd have to get a whole box in" So I had to go with Nulon and doubled the dose. Done about 100kays so far and no change, Spose I'll have to do a few more kays yet to see if it works. Bloody cars

have you cleaned the throttle body yet? doesn't take long
grab some CRC throttle body and carby cleaner follow the instructions on the can.. some carbon needs to be wiped to help get it off also check your battery terminals are tight

I've checked the throttle body earlier, I thought I may as well give it a go but all I've got is crc brake clean
Terminals are all good.

i might also have a vaccuum leak around manifold or a dodgy vaccuum hose.....i assuming you have checked plugs and leads etc or even the dizzy cap (if it has one the later models went to coil packs)

Got real rough to the point of nearly stalling for 15mins, then it seems to have improved slightly. It's stopped surging at highway speeds anymore, so maybe it's starting to come good.

Have you tried cleaning the ISC as we call it but I think it's official name is the IAC Idle Air control valve?
Cleaning ISC Valve http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpos...9&postcount=43 Cleaning Throttle Body http://www.fordforums.com.au/showpos...2&postcount=48 These are for an I6 of course, but the pictures may help. All the best with it. GK
