My Central Locking died :(

Hey guys,
For some unknown reason my central locking died on the weekend, its been working fine for ages. It only appears to be the driver door that is affected but with central locking its a big problem.

Whenever I press the lock or unlock button it makes a continuing jamming sound for about 3-4 secs then doesnt do anything....the noise is hard to explain. The key works but when i turn the key it still makes the sound :(

I've got no idea whats going on, I thought it might be the accuator but it doesnt seem right.

could be the actuator in the door has broken, rip of the door trim and have a look. would explain why the door open with the key and not the remote

i sencond what aye you said.
the plastic wheel/cog thing snaps in them a really common problem, best is to sorce a new one from the wreckers about $30 - $40 by memory other wise about $60 -$100 through ford, only takes about 10 mins to remove and reinstall new one 2

Yep, door lock actuator. I had a reco one installed by an auto elec - $77 for part $77 for labour.
Yeah i think it'd take a little more than 10 mins from open door to close door.

not really
2x screws at bottom of door trim
3x 10mm bolts behind handle and circle thingo
3x t15 (i think they are on s1) for the acutator

unplug the acuator, remove it, and reinstall the new one re do the bolts check to see if it works put trim back on and ur done

ok maybe u are right typeing it out it does seem longer then 10 maybe alow 30mins maybe bit more if u dont know were the screws and bolts are

thanks guys im having the same problem with my au, does the same noise but nuffin happens when i try to unlock it i have to hold the handle up, press its while its trying to open move the handle up and down to try and get it to unlock it self,

i can only lock myn with my remote no the key it self

Got quotes $199!! For a whole new door lock/actuator assembly..

Mine have to try find a wreckers!

No it is completely rooted now lol.

I think i will cop $200 on the chin and install it myself! My luck of late will end up me buying a fked one from the wreckers and having to fix it again 2 month later!

there is no part number for the part that brakes its a plastic, gear with a pole on it, ford only sells the entire accuator, and so does the wreckers, its a lot cheaper to go wreckers. and if its broken take it back,

thats why i went the autoelec route. reconditioned one for $77 and installed for $77 which i thought was a bargain, especially considering all the mucking around possible, and $200 for a new one, bugger that.

hey mr hardware, as far as i know u cant get recod ones only 2nd hands (might be wrong tho, thats about what my auto elec wanted to charge me too, lucky he is a nice guy and showed me how to do it haha so it cost me no labour

well i've got no reason to believe my auto elec would lie to me, if that's what you're implying. who says he doesn't reco them himself?

hey no offence intended im just saying i have never heard of reco ones, as far as i know 99% of the time the reason the stuff up is the plastic thing snapping so unless he superglued it back together.

thats ok mate, maybe he just got one of the ones that failed in the 1% category and flogged the plastic thing out of it
