Default Mustang or FPV Falcon

So you lucky guys and girls that own either or both.

Your garage has a Mustang or FPV Falcon.

Forced to choose to lose one, what's your pick?

Ps; for useless jealous people like me who don't own either, which do you pick to take to your own garage?

FPV every day of the week. The Mustang is great but its common and the build quality isn't as good as the FPV's. The Mustang I used more as a daily that could be abused. The FPV holds a special place in my heart!

Brilliant analysis Kypez.

As you know I can't comment so I'm asking as both have qualities.

Do you want it to look at, or to drive? If the latter, Mustang. Anything FG-era feels terribly dated by now, both to be in, and to drive. I own neither, and havent driven the FPV, but have driven an FGX XR8 and Mustang, and the Mustang eclipsed it in every way.

I would have thought the Mustang bought for looks, FPV for drive.

Mustang holds a certain nostalgia yet new chic, but for me, the FPV is a honest working family mans/womans daily come weekend warrior. No Mustang can claim that. Nor should it really, it typifies American self love and 'look at me' that appeals to many (just not me).

Of cause Mustang is a better drivers car, more nimble and more equipped. It is a sales brochure on wheels with newer Tech that the Yanks threw at cause it is their chosen one. Falcon/FPV is and will always be the awkward Rocky Balboa that makes one question why all the fuss of the prized fighter.

Do I drive a dinosaur or a superseded tech car... yep! And proud of it!

I’ve had both , the mustang is miles ahead in every way , would still love to have the fpv sitting in the shed but couldn’t afford both , the mustang just makes you smile every time you drive it .

Have only driven a couple of Mustangs but not owned. The facelift version is a huge leap ahead of the earlier one, great drive all round. A lot of people say they're too common but I find it ironic as it's always Falcon or Commodore owners that say it.

I love Mustangs.

Had them on my wall since a child.

Not sure the versions we get - were we dudded? The GT350R is more like an FPV to me.

Our FPVs though are top Spec.

The mustangs we get here are pretty much the top spec American version of the GT

The Mustang handles a dream but the gearing is all wrong for us locally. Throw in the overheating issues, I love my FPV. I reckon the GTF has dated well externally though the interiors are ok.

You'll barely get a couple of laps before the Mustang cooks itself. FPV's go a lot longer. But the handling on the Mustang is magic for that 1 lap!

So maybe suggesting got the higher spec to start with?

I did a track day in my 18 10speed auto and was able to get 15minutes of 20 minute sessions , and was only trans temp that stoped me.

I wish we got the higher spec locally. 3.55 gears in the 2018+ is terrible. The US get 3.73's when you option the manual. The auto is better but I don't want an auto muscle car.

The Mach 1 looks to address all the shortcomings of the standard Mustang but don't know if we'll see it here locally.

I though R Spec had GT covered? But yep ok GT far from low I'm sure.

(again I love the look and I'm not biased as can't afford either......kust a hypothetical)

Yeah, the Auto lasted longer than the Manual. I had a test auto where I set the lap record for the South circuit at SMSP and it did last longer. Once it cooked though, even after letting it sit for an hour or so, it kept going into limp mode after barely a lap.

Yep they could definitely use coolers , Mach 1 should address those issues if it comes to Aus

The high spec for appointments (digital dash for example). Performance wise, the headers had to be changed for RHD and it's why our cars produce less power than the US versions.

R Spec Mustang is a big blower on the standard engine. Some awesome tuning done but they are still recording 0-100 times of 4.6 seconds whereas the Sprint and GTF/RSpec Falcon did a 4.3/4.2. That said, the Mustang Rspec pulls hard up top.

Shame it still suffers from overheating issue though less than standard.

Awesome Kypez.

Why couldn't the GTs look like one at least?

MASSIVE improvement in stance and cool factor even if slower, sounds MUCH better too (well on YouTube the do!). I guess all too hard, expensive to comply etc.

I love our Falcons too as I'm a huge FG F6 fan but maybe one day. Black on black, tuned so nothing great but I'd actually love it.

Still in certain colours and work Mustangs still look fantastic!

The Mustang sounds amazing and the FPV's aren't even close. And the handling is amazing for stock car.

The gearing is my main complaint especially on the road or track. 134 in second is useless! You can't have any fun on the road. The Mustang Rspec limits torque in 1st and 2nd making it even more pointless on the road! IMO.

Can't agree on that at all.

The Mustangs are silent on road almost unless modified.

Even BAs were angry stock.

As previous I much prefer the Mustang shape for owners of either!

Really? Even in Sport/Track mode? I think they sound amazing and loud for a stock exhaust. My GTF sounded like a family sedan next to the Mustang.

Well I don't know but there's plenty of Mustangs here and they are silent. No Cam rumble and growl at idle. If other modes well dunno.

Mind you my cars are always loud so maybe it's my hearing! But yes FPVs sound great imo

The mustangs just dont have enough power. They need factory forced induction like both 6 and 8 FPV.

The we could really turn the power up

Until we get supercharged or twin turbo mustang, they just dont do it for me.

I am in the same boat as you Grom, I have had both and loved the FPVs I owned and if I could afford both I would have kept them, but lifes not that simple. Both cars give you that thrill when you push the starter button and the build quality of the falcon was better but I found myself worrying about all the bits you can no longer get should you even have a minor accident in the FPV.
With the mustang that's not a problem , juts love that growl on startup and really just needed to get back into a manual.
Both great cars but time marches on and so does technology, I won't knock either vehicle and neither should anyone on here who hasn't owned or driven both.

I can tell you they are plenty fast especially the gen 3 10speed , most dyno 300rwkw + I have run against xr8 Sprint auto and xr8 Sprint holy grail manual and beat them both , VF ss comodore gapped by 4 cars up to 180km. The mustang just hooks up and goes . Blower would be awesome but alotof extra cost in trying to get that power to the ground

Agreed! The 10 speed is awesome in a drag race. It really brings the best out of the coyote. It also gets it's power down much better than the Falcons (better tyres and profile help as well).

I know it's off topic a bit, but What times have you run in yours?

Haven’t had it at the strip yet , just used the race timer in the car so don’t know how accurate that is , best I’ve got so far 0 to 100 4.1 sec and quarter mile 12.1 @ 119 still spins first to second change pretty bad with all the nanny’s turns off . Plenty of videos online of stock Gen3 autos running high 11’s in perfect conditions.

I had a interplay with a late model mustang, 2 lanes to 1, slight curve, wet conditions. I was on the inside lane. I had the Michelin Pilot 4s in 275 on rear.

On pull off both of us feathered the throttle, and I eased on mine and we were neck and neck.

He then started opening his throttle, and just started to edge away, and so I increased throttle and with the super my rear kicked out and I had to back off and it was all over.

So from my experience, standard atmo late model mustang gets power down better than a FGX XR8 with intercooler (or it may have been my crap driving).

I agree with Kypez- late model mustangs sound fantastic even on lower throttle applications in their "sport" modes, much better than Miamis which only sound fantastic once you go beast mode, otherwise sound pretty anaemic.

When I recently bought my Fiesta ST, I had a good look at the Mustang R Specs (were 2), and truthfully if I was going to spend $100,000 on a car I would want something a lot more subtle - it was just FAR to boy racer for me.
