Red face So who is going to buy a 2014 Falcon?

Or Territory for that matter.

So Ford will still be making Falcons and Territories for another 3 and a half years, and if Ford are to be beleived, the 2014 update to both cars will still go ahead.

This means there is plenty of time to save your pennies to get one of the last of them. From what I have heard, the 2014 Falcon is quite a looker, includes a lot of the features many have been longing for, and will include the favourite performance models that have made it such an iconic car for years.

I always intended to buy one prior to yesterday's announcement, and now I am even more determined. The trouble is choosing. It will be either an XR6T manual or XR8 manual.

What's your choice?

I really hope they last until 2016 as I will be able to afford a new car by then. It is my goal to buy a new Falcon just once in my lifetime. It will most definitely be a performance variant. XR6T or, if the budget allows, SC GT in manual.

Gotta say I'm tempted. If I buy a new one, it'll see me out to 2036 and beyond if I supplement it with a daily. Life would be weird without a Falcon in the stable.

I'm more concerned with how they'll be screwed together. Lets face it, morale is not going to improve at Broadmeadows.

I'm not going to lie, that thought did cross my mind but...

I give more credit and respect to the workers than that. It comes down to pride. I trust that they will work with pride until the very end, like they have done previously.

My lease ends december 25th 2015 on my current family car so getting a new falcon is on the cards. Main reason I didn't by a falcon this time around is due to fords terrible after sales service I have experienced so I can only imagine it to get worse after 2016.

I can't see myself affording a new Falcon or Territory by then unless something goes really well with me financially. If I had the money, an XR6T would be very nice. Wish the Turbo Territory was still here. That horse bolted long ago. :(

Hi,
I am due to change cars by November this year. Up until the announcement I was set to buy either a MKII FPV or extend the lease a short while and pick up a 2014 FPV ( once I knew what the 2014 Falcon looked like and its specs).

After the announcement I am not sure. Deep down I still want an FPV, I have had my heart set on one since buying my XR50T, this time I will be keeping my next car for 5 years and my biggest concern will be resale.

I have had a blast with my XR50T. I have owned many cars but the XR50T still puts a huge smile on my face every time I thump the gas pedal, it's a feeling I don't want to lose. The car has been fantastically reliable to boot, just can't fault it in that regard.

Cheers,

Chris

I think bad after sales service has contributed to falling sales of the Falcon more than anything. I think everybody who has had dealings with a Ford dealer have shocking stories of appalling service. That's got to change if they want to move forward .

I will, as long as it doesn't get that giant grille all the new Ford's seem to be sporting.

Manual GTP, just not sure if it'll be FG Mk2 or FH (FG Mk3?) for reasons above.

The XR8 is to return in 2014? Can anyone point me to some details?

The Ford dealers have screwed the pooch that's for sure.

A heap of new models aren't going to fix that

I think most dealers just got used to riding on the fleets back, so to speak. They never really had to work terribly hard for their customers. I too think the poor dealer channel plays a big part in Fords problems.

I'd like to think so too.

I'm going to cash in the remainder of my long service leave and sell one of my vehicles and probably my bike which I no longer use to fund my little extravagance. I don't care about resale because I'll be keeping it forever.

Morale has been in the gutter for years now, so nothing will change, and if its anything like 2007 when they announced the engine plant closure Ford will put quality bonus's in place so that employees get extra cash if quality targets are met. So there should be no concerns.

I'd love to buy an XR8 if they bring it back, or maybe an XR6 Turbo if they don't, but I must say i've been moved by Mustangs lately after I got a subscription to Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine, and seeing how easy they have it buying upgrades, and just how quick they are with minor mods. I'm tempted.

Hoping they bring back the Super Pursuit, or a GT equalivent ute, or just more options to tick on the GS. I'll be putting down a deposit regardless, even if I have to put it on the mortgage.

I work at Ford as some of you know. The employees that remain there are veterans, all of them. The downbalances over the years got rid of the newbies and the rubbish, and even good ones too.
Production quality will remain high, very high. We love Ford Australia and Falcon. Love okay.
It upper management and dearborn that gave up on broadies and geelong, not the workers!
So quality and pride will still remain, and we will build until the lights go out.

I think our lease on the XR6 runs out Dec '14. At this point it's probably another XR6 ute (or even XR6T .. which I might have to inherit) to replace it.

I already have an fg xr6t, so was thinking of stepping into an audi A4/5 next year. The recent news has only made me lean more towards the A4/5 over the FH.

but having said that, there is just so much more bang for buck in the falcon. If the FH has enough technology in it, it may very well be the car for me

If sales numbers have BEEN bad what hope for sales to other than rusted-on enthusiasts FOR 3 1/2 YEARS MORE?
Who of the general public are going to buy an EcoBoost for instance other than hire car operators? Maybe EcoLpi will become a taxi pack version again.

I'm due for a newie in oct this year but will hang off another 6 months or so to see what the new model offerings look like.
They'd have to be pretty attractive to entice me out of my XR50T,which has been magic.
The XR50T really has to be the best appointed and best value ute ever built!

Absolutely correct. I have tried two Ford dealerships for servicing and ALWAYS got dicked around. Bloody terrible service. The biggest problem is the fact that it takes them all day to change the oil and filter and then charge like a wounded bull for the pleaser of having kept my car off the road for the whole day. I do it myself now and haven't had a problem.
Having said that I will be in the market for a new Territory next year It will depend on how the revised model looks. Am not bothered about getting the last of a model, re resale value. To my way of thinking, no cars hold their value after 18 months, 2 years.
Except my old P6. Worth more than when it was brand new

Default Re: So who is going to buy a 2014 Falcon?

As with Charles above I will be looking at the new model albeit not until April 2015. At that time I will make a decision based on what is happening then, not now.

Many seem to not understand that it is May 2013. It will be over 3 years to October 2016 and many many things can change in that period.

e.g.

Dollar drops to 70c US or even lower making manufacturing cheap.

A future Government creates the "Australian Motor Industry Act" similar to what was done in USA for General Aviation and decrees that all Government vehicles must have more than 50% local content and local gars have a much higher depreciation scale making them more appealing to fleet operators.

We do deals with foreign aid where we supply vehicles not money to buy vehicles.

Locally made vehicles become partially tax deductible for PAYG employees.

Or whatever else I have not thought of.......

I personally do not give up without a fight and then another fight and then another fight....

Rather that try and blame someone of seek "revenge", if you a truly a Ford Falcon supporter, reach out to Ford, your local state and federal representatives and everyone you know to try to get this decision reversed.

Remember what happened with V8s in 1987?
Remember what happened with performance vehicles in 1971?

It is not over until it is over and even then it is not truly over......

For every car manufacturer, there's a dealership that stuffs its customers around. Swap dealerships when you experience this. Try a third one in your case. If you get still stuffed around, maybe there's a different issue to the dealership?

I had issues with certain Subaru dealerships so I just switched to another one.

But my local Ford dealership has been nothing but fantastic with all my concerns. And I didn't even buy the car from them.

To answer the OP. The missus car needs to be upgraded before mine so no new falcon for us. I'm sure she'll want another WRX or STi.

But I can't wait to see the new one!
