Been doing the run around, trying to find out how much it would cost me to get custom plates for my beastie... was wondering what prices the other states pay?
I'm leaving canberra.... I got quoted, if i wanted "S|K-XR8" , wait for it... (edit: Forum would not let me post S I K *my initials*) "The number plate you are enquiring about is classed as a 'unique' plate and the fee would be $2258.30." : :togo: The damage is not this bad everywhere is it? Cheers guys and gals. S.

Yeah, thats about the price for a prestige plate in QLD. Mind you, the 'for sale' section made me laugh, the prestige plate 'GTX1' was $48,000 or something? Must mean my GTX69 must be worth alot more than the $450 odd that i paid :

have a look on the vplates.com.au for vic plates. i know that in nsw u need to pay for the plates every year. something like $500ish for the plates, plus rego, plus greenslip, so look at about 1200 every year for them.

NSW charge a fee for having the plate made from $120+ dearer for certain colours and combo's and then you pay a yearly lease fee to display said plates from $90 to inexcess of $600/yr ontop of your rego.
Oh yea NSW govt knows how to take the fun out of motoring.

It seems you Guys in other states get ripped. In Victoria, you pay a one off fee to own the Plates and then your normal Rego.

in WA a custom aluminium plate is $365, a custom polycarbonate plate is $495.
no yearly fees and you own the plates once you pay for them

In qld... prices can vary from $395 i think... up to a touch over 2 grand..
Basic letter combinations of 3 letters and 2 numbers are cheap.. some variations of 3 letters and 3 numbers is also available (I have 068FXR which cost $465 with an FPV theme) then there is a big jump to the prestige plates..($2000+) which is any combination of letters and numbers up to 6 characters.. and there is no yearly fee on any of the plates.. one you pay for them.. you own them |

Thank God it's a once off here in Vic SGXR8 was $295 and FPVGT? $395. A couple of grand seems way too much and paying every year for a plate it's just a ripoff.

For that ^^^ plate in SA would only be a one off fee of $180 in personalised. In custom would be $200 initial + $200 per year. http://www.transport.sa.gov.au/ezypl...onditions.html |

My black-on-white 6 letter custom plates in NSW were $440 this year. Up $40 from last year.
Every time I get the bill I wonder what on earth posessed me to get those plates. Then someone reminds me how awesome they are and I feel a little better.

Saw a guy today, Octane XR8 , with "XR-1983" plates.... 2 letters and 3 numbers are $700ish here, wonder how much the 4 cost him... I'd be happy with "XR-800" or something corny like that...

NSW is the biggest rip off for plates.
In QLD i wanted to get 51RTE and it was $440 But now looking ot 056FTE at the same price QLD IMO is pretty good. I Still have my NSW plates when i transfered it to QLD TE056 which still attracted an annual fee

The states that do not pay a yearly fee for prestige plates are lucky. I wonder how long it will be before your authorities take the NSW approach and slug you a yearly fee.
My NSW plates are $400 a year. This dosent seem too bad considering there have been three offers to buy them off me. Regards Paul

I have ordered a set for my new car. I must have had a brain snap when I ordered them. $200 fee for the making of them then $440 a year after that. I think they will only be on the car for 1 year though, them I will sell them. |

The whole idea in NSW about the lease business is you CANNOT sell them you dont own them read the fine print at myrta.nsw.gov if you do not pay the lease or return the plates next rego they will be re-made and leased to someone else. Ownership can only change between family members. NSW are experts at ripping off their taxpayers.

I got these aussie flag background OZT666 (OZ TURBO 6) plates for $465 in QLD. I wanted to get F6RCED but they were gonna cost $2295 couldn't really justify that.
Would have looked awesome though.
