Sounds like a GT to me......most bits might bolt on to a std one, but the rear track arms would require more than just a spanner to fit the mounting brackets.
The BIG question should be...Was it a Genuine GT?

Did it have a Timber dash and Door trims?

I have a 1600E, English import, inbetween a GT and a Lotus, a so called Luxury Saloon.

All the GT goodies, Rosstyles and power assisted brakes.

None iirc came out with 14's

I owned a 1600E (manufactured 1968) between 1969 & 1974 in Melbourne.
It was a red colour & I paid around $2500 before trade-in.
My trade-in was a 2 door Mk 1 Cortina GT.
Is yours my old 1600E?

This year I've seen advertised Cortina GT and Cortina GT-L. The latter having the wooden insert on the dash, don't recall seeing door caps....L for Luxury.
Again, the rear track arms bolted to welded brackets on the body and diff (in addition to the usual leaf springs). Not impossible to fake, but requires more effort (and suspect orig/repro) parts to makes it happen. Probably more than the average Joe.Faker would bother with.

But hey, I'm no Cortina expert, 'coz CAPRIs RULE !!!! Yeh !!

There was the famous Mk1 GT 500's, just over 100 Aussie made 2 door GT's. There is also a few imported 2 door GT's here. But it wasn't a Lotus (with an engine swap) by any chance?

This is my 2 door Cortina GT in 1966.
It had blue side flashes.
Introduced in the UK northern spring of 1963.

I have the Ford Aus manufacturing numbers somewhere. There were a few 1963 and 64 Mk1 GT 2 doors built. All the 1965 models were sent to Forth for GT500 conversions.
