The lesser known sibling of the Capri Perana V8, alot scarcer though, this Mk2 Cortina Perana V6 has come up for auction locally.
https://www.lloydsonline.com.au/LotD...&pgn=2&pgs=100 They really did some interesting dealer/ aftermarket conversions in South Africa back in those days. Makes you wonder if these were the left over engines from converting the Capri's to V8

Between them and Alconi, definitely some hot numbers. Current bid is a comparative bargain IMO.

I thought that on the price aswell, standard GT's are asking more than that at the moment, we'll see where it goes.
There were a couple of these conversion shops in the UK aswell, one in particular Jeff Uren/ Savage were putting the Essex V6's into Mk1 Escorts and calling them the Apache.

I put a culturally emotive slant on this, too. The Lotus Cortinas were a triumph of English finickiness, Peranas a statement of confident independence. Not unlike why many of us would choose an XY GT over a Shelby fastback.

I owned a MkI (1966 440) and a MkIII ('76 TD - I6), I was never a fan of the MkII shape, or the Mk IV for that matter

You’re either an expat from the UK or a Kiwi, transplanted?
(Or a homesick Russkiy trying to recreate the Gaz Volga!) |

I think the nose stripe on this one helped soften the square shape of the MK2
It went for 23k +7.5% premium. Thats on par for a local GT with only a wheezing 1600. https://www.lloydsonline.com.au/LotD...&pgn=2&pgs=100
