VF SS - XR6T - G6ET
Will guys the old company car (XR50) has to go and instead of driving a foreign import such as a Ford Mondeo, Hyundai i40 or a VW Jetta TSI (as is our current fleet choice), I thought I may take up the offer of a car allowance and spend $$$ on a local product. As per the title I've nailed it down to the following, VF SS - Took one for a spin the other day, impressive bit of kit. Verbally offered $42k drive away. XR6T - with a luxury pack I've been offered $45,455. G6ET - These range from $47-$49k at present and I really like the idea of a sleeper. http://www.carsales.com.au/bncis/det...?Cr=10&sdmvc=1 Even though it will cost me some coin out of my own pocket, I'm thinking this may be last time I will have the opportunity to purchase some home grown muscle. That said, the dilemma is, which way do I go? |

I should be able to help you out with one of the Friends program forms, I've used up my two but my dad can do it as well even though he is retired. If you are interested let me know and I can arrange getting one for you.

Depends on how long you plan to keep it, and whether you want a similar looking interior/car to your last one. If you can stretch to the SSV, it's good bang for buck with a refreshed interior... Also, if you're worried about resale, i think the VF will hold its value a little better, given it's a new model. The FG will drop a fair bit once the new falcon comes out.
Having said that, there's some great deals on fords now. So if you can make a big saving now, it'll offset that resale value later. |

If you can afford to step up to a VF SS-V Redline and live really close to a Holden dealer, (you'll be going there frequently to get things fixed), I'd go that way otherwise I'd go the G6ET route and fit some proper brakes to it. My 2 cents.

Go the SS because Holden is going under and needs your money or else they will leave and also there wont be any more Aussie cars after 2016, don't worry that the Holden is the least Australian of all. If you can get optional extras such as heated mirrors that don't work and electric handbrake that gets stuck on then even better.

Based on that list, a toss up between the G6ET and VF SS. As its a company car, I'd chose the G6ET, if it was my money, I'd chose the VF SS (resale being the deciding factor).

I'm looking at the same, except GS, xr6t and SS. Having driven them all, the GS puts the biggest smile on my face, in terms of grunt and engine note and the SS is just stunning inside. Out of your 3, I'd go the VF. As much as I love FG, they are pretty dated inside now, being 5 years old.
Just wished the VF had the FPV SC engine and would be perfect!

I still don't understand all the love for the VF interior. Messy, cheap and tacky and over cluttered.

I'm a ford man but, sit in a FG XR6 then straight after that sit in a SV6, it's night and day in comparison.

G6ET --> XR6T --> VF SS in that order except for if the SS was a wagon.

If ya want to get a little closer to the vf G6ET all the way..
Mine is a real dream to drive and once they have a little boost up em look out, there the biggest lux sleeper on the road in my view.. One thing i can say about the VF as a mate owns one, there a lot quicker to 100ks than the VE was..

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Yeah, I have driven both the G6ET & VFSS, both are great cars, the VF has lots of new toys, however that linear power from the old I6 with a turbo (little to no lag ) is something special. I also drove a SV6 wagon, nice car, well appointed and punchy motor, however I hop back in the XR50 and the I6 with 120,000km is a better drive. Quote:
My plan is to pass the car onto the wife after 3 years and keep it in the family. |

Ive read a review of the vf by top gear magazine. They thought the vf interior was a joke.
but you cant ignore the newer car when it comes to resale and street cred. Maybe a ve calais v8. i just cant get past the g6et no lsd. What were ford thinking? The xr6t looks like a cheap car so no to that one. by default id go vf ss, but go calais instead. |

i remember seeing the VF dash for the first time and wondered if the designer was on some meth!
what is with that big swoopy chrome design from the left side that dips down in the middle under the screen and the straights out to the right not a fan also saw the *** of one on a car carrying truck yesterday when driving home good lord thats not a nice *** imo we (well the misses did) test drove the VE SV6 wagon in that voodoo blue before we bought the turbo sexy color and shape (love that wagon) but the interior was as plain as my old BA XR8 ute it had 34 thou on the clock and that wanted the same in price we got the G6ET for 29000 with 54 thou on the clock and a much quicker car with a much better interior mate at work is thinking of trading in his 2008 holden wagon for a VF calais for the life of me i cant get him to come across to the blue oval side again a milkshaked xr8 put him off for life it seems sad sad man lol
