hi folks.....one for the putey experts out there
I have an Imac 27" which I am EXTREMELY happy with however my wifes laptop, a Toshiba satelite with all bells and whistles, refused to turn up to active duty one morning so to ease the load a bit I loaded her email addy into my mail, all worked extremely well, as macs tend to do, until she replaced her lappy and no longer needed mine for checking emails so i thought I would delete her mailbox the question is this, I right click on the email folder which brings up certain choices, I hit the delete button on "delete folder" and it comes up with a warning that this action cant be undone yada yada.....I proceed the mailbox is still there.....so I changed the details in the mailbox in order to stop her work gear getting on to my mac but now it keeps asking me for the details of the account I dont want the help files merely reinforce that which I have already done????? how do I delete this damn thing off mac.....

Not sure about how macs store the mailbox data file, but you might have to delete that with the email client closed?

Go into your mail preferences and remove the wife's accounts and outgoing mail servers.
Then shutdown Mail and bring up your finder window. Go to your user directory -> Library->mail->mailboxes and clean up the old mailbox files.

I assume you're using Apple Mail? Highlight the mailbox folder you want to delete, then up the top, goto Mailbox, scroll down the list & click delete mailbox, it should delete it, (or you can right click on the mailbox you want gone & do the same thing). Other than that go into Mail preferences, goto accounts, in the Left hand side box click her account details & click the - sign at the bottom of the box, this should remove all the details for that mailbox account. |

yes apple mail....I go into mail, right click on the wife's hotmail folder......this brings up "choices"
I then click on delete mailbox....a message comes up to say this operation cant be undone....I click OK mailbox is still there according to the "help" files this is the correct way to do it but I can tell everyone it doesn't work I tried going in to finder to delete from there but the result is the same! bloody annoying!
