Just wanted to share my ESTA story with you, especially as there was quite a lengthy thread about whether to take a big six or small four on a long drive.
The brief was simply, drive 1200 klms, have a weeks break, drive 1200 klms home. The choice was a 2004 BA Falcon or 2005 WP Fiesta. I chose the Fiesta and was very pleased with the decision, especially when I saw the price of fuel in the Far North West. Here is how it went: Perth to Geraldton : 415 klm 29.53 litres at $1.578/litre Fuel economy 7.11 litre/klm averaging 110-115 km/h Geraldton to Carnarvon : 481 klm 37.68 litres at $1.519/litre Fuel economy 7.83 litre/klm averaging 110-120 km/h Carnarvon to Coral Bay to Carnarvon: 460 klm 35.84 litres at $1.499/litre Fuel economy 7.79 litre/klm averaging 120-130 km/h Carnarvon to Geraldton: 475 klm 34.58 litres at $1.558/litre Fuel economy 7.28 litre/klm averaging 120-130 km/h Geraldton to Perth : 446 klm 33.39 litres at $1.279/litre Fuel economy 7.48 litre/klm averaging 110-115 km/h All up the trip was 2276 klms and I averaged 7.51 litres/klms. Not bad considering the speed I averaged...The little Fiesta amazed me with her competancy on the road, and her big car feel. She overtook dozens of road train, hundreds of caravan pulling 4X4's and countless cars. All safely and easily with a minimum of fuss. Gives me a whole new appreciation for my little ESTA. Oh, and if you ever get the chance, see if you can get to Coral Bay up near Exmouth in the Far North West. The scenery is amazing, as is the fishing. I caught these two little beauties..15 kg combined of sweet Red Emperor.. Hope you all find this interesting. Simon

Nice Catch!
Glad you're happy with your decision, it is quite surprising how capable the Fez is on big drives, the only problem I see is lack of space for carrying stuff. I'll definitly try to see the West coast someday.

EstaFiesta...I own a XR6'04 and a Fiesta '05.....just did 5000klms in the XR...petrol average was 8.8 litres per 100ks. For an extra 1 1/4 litres per 100 ks, give me the power and comfort of the bigger car. I am not knocking the Fiesta(great car)but, you would have had a better trip in the Falcon.

I can return 7.5 driving in sydney. Can get 6 on the highway in both the Fiesta and Focus
1 1/4 litres per 100km is a net extra cost of almost $100 at the far north prices.

To be honest I do get sick of the fez on long trips. Going to Bathurst killed me

I don't mind the Fez over long distances, but I used to do 500km trips regularly in my old N12 Pulsar. The Fez is a big step up from what I've previously owned. I know once I get a company car from work, there wont be any looking back with long distance trips.

Hey Tekio,
I still love ESTA, but the attraction to 5.4 litres of Ford muscle has become quite strong. Currently looking at V8 Fairmont Ghia or XR8 with a bit of fruit. I do change cars roughly every 12 months, and next month is ESTA's first birthday. Will keep you all posted.

Amazing. My Zetec focus does 7.4L/100km on the highway, and holds 15L less fuel thus I can't even goo the same distance on a tank even with the same economy!!!.... I know what I'd rather be in, the lounge room on wheels.
