Default Back in a wheezer.........MkIII

Yep I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack. Just can't stay away from Windsor V8's.

But.........

Not an AU this time. After 17 years of waiting I've finally got an EL GT. Manual, Burgundy and original apart from a catback exhaust. Absolutely ecstatic to finally be owning my favorite Falcon model.

More pics to come (but maybe not in this section) when I pick it up late this week.

Good stuff mate, I somehow think that this one will be in your possession for a long time unlike your previous rides.

Just under 112. Build #37, and it will never leave my possession. I've toyed with the idea of a T3 stroker engine for it already, but that's very unlikely to happen.

Always wanted one of these and while the AU's are awesome (I almost bought a T3 instead), I would have regretted not jumping on this one when I had the chance. Maybe not everybody's favorite or ideal GT (or Falcon for that matter), but I love them.

I have a 5 hour drive home to get acquainted with it towards the end of the week then it's going straight into storage. This is my own reward for many, many long hours of hard work, and luckily my wife agreed

Get it out as often as you can and enjoy it! Sounds like you've waited a long time to own one.

You made the right choice IMO.
As nice as a T3 is, I'd choose one of these over a T3 too.

For some reason the over done cartoon looks make it an attractive proposition.
Sort of like the (VL?) Walkinshaw Commodore?

It was only the second GT in a lot of years too, a very exclusive car.

Can I ask what you paid? PM if you prefer, or not at all?

You can ask.........all I'll say is I paid under $25k which I was very happy about. I'm 27 and we've not long bought our new house so it was money that I had but didn't want to spend unless the right thing came up - which it has.

I did consider a T3 but the rarity of the EL won me over, that and it is my 'original' want. A T3 would be awesome and I would gladly park one next to the EL, but for now I am happy with what I am going to get.

well aust, it's one of my dream cars to own to, keep it original as you can not visual items
maybe a cam, GTsteveMk11 will give you plenty of advice plus others but steve is very good when it comes to the EL GT. don't listen to all the negative replys that people post on about the el gt their just jealous of not owning one themselves, it wasn't about performance it was about what GT stand for Grand Touring.

cheers dean

Thanks guys for the kind words. I'm happy as a pig in you know what but exhausted from the past month or so working to pay for it!

Stu good chance I will head over to AFD given it's a Sunday. I will talk to you closer to the time.

I havent got any performance mods in mind (or any mods for that matter) although I will probably change the battery over to a deep cycle one down the track, purely due to the fact it will spend a lot of its time on the charger inbetween drives.

I have driven one of these cars before, admittedly not for very long, but everybody you speak to and all the reviews etc say that the GT is a lot more than just a different bodykit, wheels and engine. The fact that the EL runs a lot of different suspension components and then all the other differences on top of that makes it a very special car. I dont care about the 'lack' of grunt compared to more modern offerings, I have always liked the character of the Windsor and the fact it is a GT will make it that much better.

good move . i wouldn't mod it at all . they were faster than an xr8 in thier day , and the xr8's werent that slow . i reckon they are the most engineered GT that ever existed . i'd love to see one , i reckon i would still dribble . and ive owned a ba gt , and fg sc gt . i would feel privileged and love to drive an EL GT , just to say i have .
please make a vid . i'm not sure there are any vids out there

The effort they went to to make it handle was quite remarkable. There wasn't much in the suspension they didn't touch, they did it all, shocks, springs, bushes, swaybars etc, and all developed to work around the Yokahama's they selected as being best for the job. There were no shortcuts.
