I work nights - 4 till 4am 3 nights a week. Love it, wouldn't have it any other way. I get 4 days off a week, get to sleep in and get paid way more than dayshift.

I think you have it easy, from yesterday i worked till 6 am this morning, went to bed, phones started ringing again at 9 am and have been going since and will not probably get back to bed until 6 am tomorrw morning.

So if im lucky i might get 6 hours sleep over 2 days the rest of the time is just work , no breaks, but its swings and roundabouts here, i will be taking the rest of the week off as i just booked myself a long weekend from wednesday through to next monday, bugger it, lifes to short.

I do 2 X 12 hour days (24 hour break) 2 X 12 hour nights, then 4 days off. 6 weeks annual leave and get paid a dumpster full of $$ to do it. I could never go back and do the 5 day week thing. But if you love your job, like I do mine, you would work any hours you need. This shift means that I only work for 4 and a half months of the year......

i do 7pm-4:30am 4-5 nights a week, get paid for 8.5 (1hr meal break, hardly ever get to take it though) get like an extra $2/hr for nightshift, the boss put a note on the payslips saying they would make new AWAs for us because of the new fairness test Howard got made to put in, so hopefully we will get back a couple of benefits, especially nightshift allowance.

Used to love the night shift you can get your jobs done with less hassle ( no bosses on your back all day ) and if your having a good shift get your work done and chill out till the next job comes along ( u/g shift fitter )

No drama's sleeping just rip into a few bourbons before bed...wake up and get into it till day shift comes along then home for a week.

Got some wicked stories of the stuff we got up to on shift work as others have no doubt.

I work exactly the same shifts mate. Wouldn't have it any other way now. If you're at work for 8 hours anyway, whats another 4 hours worth of work? If it means you get a 4 day break every 8 days, I'll do it any time. Plus 6-8 weeks annual leave/RDO's and $100K + wages, continental shifts are the way to go. :
PS I work in the chemical industry in Adelaide.

Hate to tell you this but I get 90% of my TR. That is salary plus value of leased car and super. 30% is a loading amout that gets paid to Singaporians for shift work. This is part of the workchoices package that is being hoisted on to Australian workers. We told the people that we work for that if they try to force that onto us (12 of us) that we would simply all walk out on that day and not come back. Luckily for us there is only 12 people in Australia with the qualifications to do the job. They havn't tried anything as yet.

It was kind of night shift, i mean it was dark...
Used to work 5am till 4pm at an abbitoir (sp?)
Then drive 40K's home, shower, sometimes eat..
Then work 5pm - 10pm at a bottle shop.
I was like a zombie the whole time though, only thing that made me laugh during the few months i did it was watching a kid fall off a bike...
But worth it for $25/hr for a 20 y.o

Could be worse guys - at least you're getting paid for it.

Copped the midnight phone call from security tonight and we were broken into so I'm now waiting (unpaid) for a locksmith to turn up to fix the door so I can go home.

I usually call our clients around 2-4am about break and enters, 12am is quite early for a B&E.

We had one night were we had to call our 24hr emergency glassie out for about 6 different broken windows on 6 different locations, between about 10pm and 5am, naturally he ran out of boards. Luckily though we have 3 cars around town where I work, so we caught atleast one of the bastards earlier on, apparently though the police let him go, and more were broken later that night.

OK - doesn't this just top off a spectacular night. Midnight call-out to a B&E at work... stuck there for 2 hours... then on the way home I hit a ####ing kangaroo.

Aparently bad things come in 3's... might hve to stay in bed tomorrow...
