This is a bit of story so I hope I don't bore too many of you but....Every now and then in a very long while, some happening or event brings a simple moment of joy to your life and this is one of mine.
Yesterday I decided to go fishing for some Yellow Fin Whiting, which entails spending a couple of hours first collecting the right bait. My 10 yr old son asked if he could come along to get the bait, which is unusual, but I was happy to see him take an interest. Normally my kids come down the beach and swim and muck about in the sand dunes while I and the missus fish, but, with bait in hand and back at home my son then asked if I could bring a rod along for him to have a go fishing, something he's only ever shown a passing interest in, no worries, you can use mums gear as she'll be working till mid afternoon anyway. So we get there and set up, I show him how to thread a nipper onto the hook and pointed him at the water. After half an hour and maybe 6 or 7 fish, I decided to sit down for a while as my back was playing up after 2hrs of pumping nippers. At this point I started actually watching my son fish. He had only caught 2 fish at that point but over the next couple of hours, and without any further help or advice from me, I saw him adapt his casting to the conditions, change his technique a number of times as he experimented on the best way to attract the fish to his bait and finally land on a technique it took me a number of years to figure out. The little bugger only bagged out with the last 7 fish being 1 bait, 1 cast, 1 fish. I didn't fish at all the rest of the day, just sat and watched my son go from complete novice to gun whiting fisherman in less than 3 hours. I was so proud of him and it was such a joy to witness and something that'll stay with me till the day I die. I'd love to hear about anyone elses' random moments of joy, doesn't have to be about family or fishing or cars or whatever, just a memorable moment that has stuck with you. Cheers Bushbasher

I have a sort of similar story, but it was a few years ago now, as my kids are in their 20's now.
We used to live down in Nowra and I used to fish the Shoalhaven river. I regularly took my kids with me 4 & 8 at the time. After catching a few bream & flatties, my daughter (8) was watching me clean & gut them for dinner and she said "can I pull their guts out dad"...I laughed my head off and sure enough, she ripped the guts out of all the fish and then started poking them in the eyes... Sadly, they don't come fishing with me anymore...
