Default Rim Sizes on Mk1 Capri

Hi All. I am trying to put a set of 15x7 rims on a capri with a 9inch diff in the back. thet all fits. I am having dramas getting the fronts to fit due to the tyre hitting the strut. I currently have a 205 50 15 tyre on it. What size rim and rubber are you blokes running on your fronts ? It have a falcon brake upgrade on it. Unsure of which type tho...

I run Capri front struts on My Mk1 escort race car and have 215/45/15 on 8 inch rims on the front. To do this I run a 10mm offset front hub (alloy) and 20mm spacers (10mm shown) but needed extra clearance when its 2 1/4 inch springs are wound down low. Only problem with all that is I cant remember the wheel offset. I know +12 or +18 14x6 also rub.

we are running the same strut setup by the looks of that. who hooked you up with the alloy hubs etc ? we have to go thru engineers as well. that dont really look like it would pass engineers.. do your tyres hang out past the guards ? ours are in line at present using 7" rim and i can see no way to pull them in tighter as clearance between strut and tyre is about 5mm right now.

Mine an escort though and a race only car. I'm a photo Hoare too
Hubs are ex UK, don't know about legality?
with your tyre hitting the strut how much clearance to the guard. does the falcon brake conversion alter the wheel mounting face offset?
should be able to get a 205 in there until you turn the wheel if you run decent caster

The Escort green beast has bubble arches giving more clearance.
Your should be able to get 205/60x13 under the standard Capri Mk1 arch. 7" rims are a challenge whatever tyre size on the MK1 (max 6"), Mk2/3 are a doddle and had std 7" on some models.
Sounds like you are pushing the boundaries a bit.
Is the car lowered ? If so, this is probably compounding the problem.

You may be able to stretch the arches (roll the lip) a bit to get your tyres under.
NFI about offsets, I'm still running standard 185/70x13 on 5.5" Revolution Rebel rims (zero clearance issues !!)

on my MK1 capri I ran 15x7 challengers but I had the RS3100 style lip on mine which lines up with Allan about stretching the arches....

Tyre 1 - 185/70x13
Tyre 2 - 215/50x15 (7" rim)

Compare Tyre 1 to Tyre 2
http://tire-size-conversion.com/tire-size-calculator/

Diameter = +1.3%
Width = +16.2%
Sidewall = -17.1%
Circumference = +1.2%
Revs/Mile = -1.1%

60mph becomes 60.8mph

Mine years ago had XW discs/calipers and the 14" XD Ghia wheels on the front.
7inch would need the right offset as not a lot of room under there

Offset, that's what its all about. You have to match the offset to the rim width to balance it correctly to get the maximum width without rims/tyres fouling on suspension. Maybe try rimtuck.com but I think that might be focused on jdm cars.
