Default Colour Choice Black or not ??

Hi all,
What is peoples opinions whom own or have owned a black car? I'm about to order a new BF MkII ute to replace my Shockwave BA (written off).
I liked the shockwave (blue) but am also thinking of Silhouette (black) or the new Ego (metallic blackish).

I am fairly keen with my cars and do keep them clean and tidy but am concerned that i've been told that blacks show evrey little scratch and mark up a lot more than other colours do. Its an everyday driver ute.

Thanks
Alan.

Personally in these days of water restrictions and the country not getting enough water, I would get something that hides dirt. I actually feel guilty when I wash my car. And I only wash it every 3 months because of said guilt.

I own three black cars and they get the most attention. my coupe was originally blue and now that it is black people notice it more. yes, they do show the dirt and any marks and that most certainly is the down side; but I would not have any other colour.

You can have any colour you like, as long as it's black.

i used to love detailing my cars.

bought an au xr8 in black, what a mofo to keep tidy!

youd wash it, move it to the garage and she'd be dirty again.

looked nice when clean, but was a mongrel to keep that way.

up to you.

Black is not a colour, it's the absence of colour. Silhouette of course is a colour, as it has blue flecks through it, and while nice when clean, is hard work to keep that way. I'd be looking at fantasy.

i have a black car and it is a pain to keep clean. it is only driven around town but shows every speck of dust. having said that, it looks brilliant when it has been washed. oh, and it is a Mini so it only takes 20 minutes to wash and chamois :-)

Go the black, there is nothing sexier than a black car in good nick.

And dont feel to guilty when washing your car. 70% of water usage is in the bathroom anyway. Washing your car is only a fraction of your annual water usage. Feel bad about using water? Knock one minute off of your shower and you will save heaps

Black does show scratches easily though, and swirl marks

Black still looks great & turns heads even when dirty , have owned 5 black cars and plan on painting 2 more (XY ute & XM Wagon) BLACK . especially with the dark window tint. They all get dirty coz i live in the country with a limestone driveway. I dont think the heads turn coz its looks Crap!

According to a few black car owners here - you could use a phrase in a different context "Once you go black, you'll never go back!"

Stay away from dark colours if you hate detailing and cleaning. This goes for Black and Colours like BLUE PEARL. !!

I use to own a Black car when I bought my last car new in Oct last year I had the choice of Blaze, Silhouette or Shockwave. I was thinking of Black for a short while but them I remembered how hard it was to keep clean & it showed up every mark. So I went Shockwave (im very happy with that) still shows the dust etc as mine is a daily driver also but not to the extent black would. Note the GT-P wheels are a photochop.

I hope your ordering your SHOCKWAVE this month as unfortuately Ford are discontinuing it by December 06.
My only issue i had with my Shockwave BA MkII before being written off was it did show the "orange peel" effect in the paint in most angles.

I have heard the occasional Shockwave owner say that, but its not the case with mine. BA MkII sedan. I quite like the idea of having a colour Ford are discontinuing but Ford seem to do that abit and quite often with very popualr colour's.

Yes I agree. Black is so awesome when clean.
However as it's a daily driver, unless you want to do the maintenance required, get something else. Yellow maybe
Metallic black is not nice on most cars IMO, go solid black or other colour

If you do go black, clay it and give it a hand polish and then seal it up good with a polymer or acrylic paint sealer
So many new cars that are black actually look like dark chocolate and need a good two step polish to get the true colour out.

Can only endorse other peoples comments here.

I have a Black BF GT and when clean it looks so tough....especially under artificial light....but a few days out on the road, rain or not, it shows everything.

If you are going to get black, keep the hose and bucket handy !!

So it's up to a 4 week wait for my new BF MKII "EGO" Ute to arrive.

Thankyou all for your input.
