"Queensland Government flags vehicle registration hike to cover more accident victims
By Chris O'Brien Motorists in Queensland are facing in increase in the cost of motor vehicle registration by up to $76 so more people can be covered for serious injury. Treasurer Curtis Pitt said the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance component of the registration fee was an "at fault" scheme which did not apply if an accident was deemed to be no-one's fault. That meant about half of accident victims were not covered by CTP insurance. Mr Pitt said Parliament would debate the best way to cover the gap under the National Injury Insurance Scheme which Queensland joined in 2013. One option is a no-fault statutory scheme for an extra $60 a year. Another model that would also allow common-law rights to sue, would cost an additional $76 per vehicle. "Both options will come at a cost for Queensland motorists, but will cover them for lifetime care and support for themselves and their loved ones," Mr Pitt said. "This has been implemented in every other state, and in each case there have been costs associated." Mr Pitt said he would negotiate with all non-government MPs before the bill was introduced "to ensure that we can get as much support, and hopefully bipartisan support for what is a very important reform in this state". "I think everyone would expect that we have this kind of coverage for people suffering road trauma, those catastrophic injuries which will require life time care," he said." http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-04-1...ictims/7323618

Qld used to have the lowest rego fees of any state until the workers' friends gained governance and promptly started pushing them up. They are now one of, if not the, dearest!

"Queensland Government flags vehicle registration hike to cover more accident victims".
What it really means is "Due to our complete non understanding of basic fiscal policy, we've overspent (as usual) and so lets slug the poor old motorists again". But wait ... don't revenue cameras make drivers more law abiding and careful? So how come more citizens are being seriously injured. (Maybe faulty cameras). |

I'll go one step further and say that this is an admission that the "safety" cameras aren't working to keep people safe on the roads. The fun part is the bureaucrats who came up with this may not even realise they have let this fat cat out of the bag

Half of accident victims are not covered by the compulsory insurance scheme overseen by the government!!!!!!!!!! For how long now??????????
If that is definitely the case we certainly are not getting value for money from our elected officials!! Ludicrous!
