Its time for me to move on out of my XR6T into something more versatile guys.
I'm onto a 2008 D22 4x4 Navara thats had the engine replaced mid last year and clutch replaced aswell and its only got 180,000 k's on the clock. I've heard the Navaras have some problems is this true???? |

o.k been doing some googling and research on them.
They have inherent original conrod bolts being too soft and breaking problems which break and the end caps come loose and engine goes bang. The problem can be fixed with new replacement ARP conrod bolts which can be done by removing sump without engine or trans removal at home on ramps or stands. I'll speak to my mechanic about this tmrw. |

I have a 2006 D22 so it's one of the last with the ZD30 turbo diesel. The ZD got a lot of bad press as a result of their failure rate, but a lot of those were in the earlier model Patrol wagons. My theory is that they were failing because Nissan had them wound up too high with a larger turbo and so on to power the much heavier patrol. My single cab D22 has been fine but I'll admit I do baby it.
The ZD30 was replaced with the smaller YD25 but as you've found they weren't without their problems either. I wasn't aware of the rod bolt issue but I have heard of a few breaking the single row timing chains. One of my work colleagues had a D40 Navara that snapped a timing chain with catastrophic results. He was left in that no-win situation where the ute with a blown motor was worth nothing, and the cost of a new motor meant he was over capitalizing in the thing. He couldn't afford a new ute so he went with a new motor. There is an aftermarket double row timing chain kit that will address the issue. If I was in your position I would price one up, including the labour cost. and negotiate with that in mind. I'm very happy with my D22 and it's been extremely reliable. They're a very dated design and not real refined but hey, it's a work ute. |

Yeah the single row timing chain caused lots of issues on the D40, not sure about the detuned D22. The 2.5 motors were ok but I see lots of them pumping out black smoke on acceleration, more than any of the other Utes. I think the inlet manifolds clogging up was also common.
All the Utes of that era where common rail was just coming in had a few teething issues so whichever Ute you get will have potential problems. |

Decided i cant get the $$$ together so have opted for my mechanics BA Gas Wagon which is really clean and straight.
Will throw some XR6 wheels on it and get the new front bumper match painted and i'll be ready to go again!!!!!!!! |

Picking BAGASWGN wagon up this afternoon or tmrw morning with fully retested tanks, new spark plugs and thermostat plus RWC and few months Reg.....$3,500.
Just needs new front bumper match painted asap. XR6 wheels already organised!!!!!!!! p.s I am also going to try something new with a 4WD LED lightbar mounted in the front bumper lower section. |

In the end a far better outcome imo.....
My own Novara experience was shocking sometime ago, I'll never ever touch one ever again, worst vehicle I have ever owned. Absolute biggest POS. Good call as mentioned.

My Dad's client of a company runs a big business in excaving etc etc.
Have run Navaro's as fleet for years. Reckons they're brilliant value and extremely reliable. Hilux only other they occasionally buy. |

Be warned, Nissan had loads of problems with the Tow Bars on this vintage.
They did eight engineering revisions of the tow bar as when loaded the design was a failure..... it cause the rear of the frame to be drawn together. This resulted in a write off..... A lot of write offs.

Also a Link to that thread in case you want to know more. https://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11483514 Thanks to Gothefalcon what a wealth of knowledge For the front suspension : The RTV's top and bottom arms are the same as standard Falcon. The RTV's spindle upright/knuckle is almost identical too.. but the tie-rod end mounts onto it from the top (instead of from the bottom) so the taper in the spindle is the other way around to account for it. The RTV's top and bottom inner pivot mounting points have been lowered (to give the body lift). This is done by unique top arm mounts and unique cross-members. The RTV's also have a unique steering rack arrangement, longer flexible brake hoses and ABS sensor looms (to account for the suspension droop distance being further from the chassis - due to the lift)... and a unique sway bar set-up too. The RTV's longer shock length makes up for the additional distance from the bottom arm mounting point, to the top of the suspension tower. Other than this... the RTV's front suspension pretty much works in the same operating range as the standard Falcon (just that the body is sitting higher off the road etc) For the rear suspension : The RTV has unique front leaf spring hangers and rear leaf spring shackle blocks (this is what provides the rear lift) It also has a unique component mounted to the top/outer of each diff axle housing, held on by longer U-bolts. This component is used to reduce the bump-stop gap back to "standard" measurements (as the axle housings are moved down, away from the chassis with the lift)... and to provide a mounting point for the rear anti-tramp rod pivot. (The front anti-tramp rod mount is in the front leaf spring hangers) The RTV has a multi-link rear suspension set-up (ie: leaf springs and anti-tramp rods) to help maintain traction (off road). The RTV's longer rear shock length makes up for the additional distance from the bottom cast plate mounting point, to the top shock absorber chassis mounting bracket. Other than this... the RTV's rear suspension pretty much works in the same operating range as the standard leaf-sprung Falcon (just that the body is sitting higher off the road etc) hope this makes sense !??
