Default Fake cop gives out traffic fine

I think its pretty funny, no one got hurt so you can have a laugh :-)

Quote:
A man has fitted flashing red, white and blue lights to his car and posed as a policeman, hitting up a Brisbane motorist for money to pay a fake traffic fine.

Police said a woman was pulled over on Beenleigh-Redland Bay Road, Cornubia, about 4pm (AEST) on Sunday by a man wearing blue pants, a blue business shirt and cap and driving a white Suzuki Swift hatchback with dashboard lights.

The man told the woman she had committed a traffic offence and asked for an upfront cash payment for the fine.

When the woman challenged him and asked for identification, he left in his car.

Police say that officers will never ask for money and motorists should ask to see an officer's metal police service badge and photographic identification card if they suspect something is amiss.

"Any motorist that believes the unmarked vehicle attempting to intercept them is not a police vehicle is urged to contact local police or, if they fear for their safety, to call triple zero to verify the identity of the vehicle or the person," a statement said.

I’m pretty sure that they don’t call it a “felony” over here, however, impersonating a police officer is a pretty serious offence. A couple of nutbags tried it in St Albans a few weeks ago.

They’re probably sitting in their cell wondering if it really was a good idea.

I used to have a set of red and blue flashers on my sun visor. Used to flip it down n pull mates over when I ran into them driving around. Looked very convincing in the rear view mirror at night. Was good for a laugh, but pulling over random people and hitting them up for money is asking for trouble

Pulling a person over with flashing lights is one thing (I personally think it's hilarious). The most you can expect from that is a defect for flashing lights or a DTP But identifying youreself as an officer of the law and demanding money is a different kind of offence.

Sorry, but I don't see how it's funny at all. In fact, she's lucky all he wanted was money.

I can assure you that if the “powers that be” found any form of flashing light, blue or red in a vehicle, not only would they be “quite unhappy”, the occupants of that vehicle would be in for a very uncomfortable stay in a far from pleasant environment.

The coppers and magistrates take a very dim view of anyone even remotely trying to pass themselves of as “members.”

While i don't agree with fake cops pulling people over, i've often wanted to have a light bar to flash at idiots. a thread in the main forum about "d/h in the right hand lane travelling slowly" would quickly move over if he thought a copper was behind him.

Impersonating police in any way shape or form is an offence. In regard to the Suzuki Swift being used, it would not surprise me with the way policing is going if they use them in the not too distance future

Is it illegal to wire headlights & reverse lights/indicatorss to flash left/right intermittently, but not have any red/blues at all?

Nope its not.

It is illegal to show any flashing red or blue lights on a car.
And there are hefty fines for it.

Also any steady blue lights like those dorky windscreen wiper nozzels with the blue LEDs fitted is technically illegal as well...

Quote:

Well no they dont "look" like Police cars because they are 35yr old falcons.
So there is no drama there. If you had a current model commodore or a current model falcon fitted with police lights then that is a different story.

The only drama is the having the lights and sirens fitted. As long as the lights remained covered up while on the road there is no drama. However a siren is also illegal, so its mere presence can get you into trouble.

In the old days the police would turn a blind eye to all the variety bash cars fitted with red and blue lights and sirens blaring. I do belive now that permits are sought so its all legal now.

Use to have some real dash lights, $60 off a site in the US, used them a couple of times pulling over mates, was going to make a sort of under cover project car, theres a silver GT decked out in cop lights, was at GC AFD a few years back, gave me the idea. Sold them now but made a nice profit though.

You get locked up for flashing lights.... Paedophiles get a suspended sentence. Makes alot of sense, when we were young fellas we had a mate with a VR Wagon, we took an orange rotating light and one of mums tupperware containers with a bit of blue cellophane from any more than 2m away you would swear it was legit. We would just pull people over and then drive past, no one got hurt but we had alot of fun.

I have a story!

I work shifts where I'm driving home at about 9.30pm - 10.30pm every night. I take the Monaro Highway which takes me home in about 35mins doing the speed limit. Well, about 95% of the time, there are always other cars on the highway at that time (which I don't mind in at all). But what gets me are the drivers that stick to the RIGHT LANE doing 90km/h - 95km/h creating what I believe to be a 'road block'!

So one night, instead of conforming to the slow driver in the right lane who is doing just under the speed limit and staying a good distance behind him/her, I decided to 'pretend' I was a cop by flashing my fog lights on and off at the same time as flashing my high beams on and off, and LO AND BEHOLD he pulled over to the left lane and cleared a nice 3km's of straight road for me!
