WHAT?!?!?!
I'm looking at getting a road bike to combat rising fuel costs etc and I'm on my Bike L's... Now I'm looking at getting a Honda CBR250RR for about $3000. Doing the online isurance quotes for it.... It seems, that with a untarnished driving record, NRMA want $3800 per year for a $3000 bike. I would only be getting full comp because it would be a personal loan, other wise it would be like less then $300 per year for 3rd party. The area I live in isn't anywhere near a high craime rate at all. This is Bull S*** I'm sick of these large motoring companies making it hard for us, even when we are trying to do the right thing....

A new motorcyclist is high risk, even with a clean record 10 years experiance and over 30 i was paying $1000 for a 1000cc sports bike.

With rating 1, my VTR was going to cost me $7,500 pa when new. Needless to say I opted for just 3rd party property- $120 pa.
I don't know anyone who bothers with full comp for sports bikes. I just got an unsecured loan when I got mine. Interest was 12.5% (compared to 7.5% for a secured loan), but for $3000, you won't notice it. I'd go that way, then you won't need to give them bill of sale, and you can just get 3rd party property. |

I assume it has a lot to do with age, as my CBR900RR was $490 pa Fully Comp with QBE. Of course I have been with them for years and I'm 45. Insurance companies love to take money, but they are unwilling to give it! I also think if you have Rating 1, you should get a good discount no matter what age you are, they are always looking at screwing the younger age groups, even if you do the right thing and get to rating one!
Edit: Just checked with QBE as it has been 3 years since I had my bike, for a 2002 CBR929RR it's now $615.00pa fully comp. On of the VERY few good things about getting older I suppose. Last edited by falcon91; 06-05-2006 at 12:40 PM. |

For a $3K bike i wouldn't worry bout insurance, just get third party - approx $120p.a. with NRMA.
I jumped to a $10K 600cc sports straight off my P's and am only paying $1000p.a. full comprehensive with QBE.
