The number 18 Radisich/ Ellery car was a rocket up and down the mountain that day.
Whatever DJR did with that engine it was noticeably quicker than anything else in a straight line and then the Rat tangled with a back marker ripping out the valve stem. Race over!!!

Great race right up until that tangle with the lapped car, have not seen any footage of that race since then, still get upset when I think about it, that race and 1995

Uncanny timing.

Was talking to a friend on Saturday and wouldn't you know he indicated they had recently brought DJ's No 17 AU from the 1999 race, ie last time DJ drove at Bathurst and also my first trip to Bathurst because it was his last drive.

I've got a good pic of DJ leaning on the pit wall on Wednesday lamenting and we had a quick chat.

They're currently waiting for a new fuel cell for it from the US to start it etc.

Asked if they could let me know when etc. I'll get some pics if possible and hopefully I'll also get to sit in it and give it a rev

PS: The rat ripped out more than a valve stem, try the whole front wheel

Got the DVD of 1997/1998 for when i got my EL XR6
Also bought the 2001 for of course my commodore.
Soz, not the 1999 :P

Great to watch these older Bathursts

Amazing though that the cars back then were still doing pretty damn good times and has taken a very long time to improve the lap times.

A good resurfacing i guess is what was needed.

Man I dont know if its my speakers or not but the sound of the DJR car just sounds amazing. Like a real V8 should.

Love to know what PR was quietly saying when he was feeding the horse in the paddock beside the track (after parking his damaged DJR AU for the day). How different things could've been (perception wise for the AU?) if he'd won that day, who knows lol.

cheer's, Maka

Ah the good ol' Highlights DVDs. I actually have the 2006-07-08 races on DVD. The whole races. I watched them all in excess of 50 times each. Throw them on at work with the earphones in listening to 6 hours of SBR ford engines thundering round Bathurst is great.
