I wonder if the roumours are true.. that the E90 M3 will get the E39 M5's 4.9litre 294kW 500Nm V8... it'll need it if its going to compete with Merc's C55 AMG (270kW 510Nm 5.4 V8) and Audi's new RS4 (4.2litre 309kW 420Nm V8).

414 bhp
Coupe , Sedan , Touring and Coupe - Cabrio body styles
Alluminium front end
innovative chassis design
SMG drivelogic 7 speed
Manual gearbox 6 speed
Carbon fibre roof ( Coupe only)
Magnesium components
Thermo plastic body parts.
Lighter high performance CSL

The next M3 as always will be the flagship of the 3er portfolio. And will be available as coupe, sedan and then a high performance touring version.
The reintroduction of a sedan and the introduction of a Touring was chosen because we realise we are losing customers who want the practicality . The logical choice would be Alpina but many defect to other manufacturers.

The next M3 will receive a high rev V8 evolved from the latest V10 - Basically two cylinders removed but no less spectacular.
due to increasing competition ,power up to 414BHP The next CSL will head into 500 BHP territory.
Specified , top speed could be unlimited up to 180 or 190mph. Six speed manual gearbox and optional Seven speed SMG. drivelogic.

The next M3 is all about progress - We upgrade the current car (E46) to todays requirements , add tweak here, more developments , new materials and remove some weight from there.

The Coupe is expected to follow the M6 with a carbon fibre roof however both a metal roof and carbon fibre have beeen tested to see which one emphasizes the cars capabilities. Carbon fibre won. As it will be positioned as the top M3 variant. More use of cabrbon fibre and composite plastic as seen with M6. Structure and chassis will benefit with use of alluminium for exceptional ride quality , rigidity and handling.

The next M3 is known as the 100%er
As a car especially a performance it can do no wrong - The appeal of the M3 will still be there but with the use of lightweight materials . This evolution will give a feel of nostalgia by mirroring past M3 achievements.

In giving a strong character and a driving experience like no other car on the market. Audi may have 420BHP RS4 - but they have 4.2 engine and quattro technology = weight penallty.

The next M3 will fully be seen in all body styles of the 3er E90 platform -
think of it as an M3 for all types of users. Sedan for the family , Coupe for the enthusiast , cabrio for the sunseekers and Touring for the capacity.

All to known coupe-cabrio as 4er - BMW have now changed their mind and will develop a new 4er car from the ground up - What shape this is to be in is not known as yet

The M3 will be the flagship of the E90 platform
With a 335i and 335d sitting directly below it - two cars that are are barely a stone throw away from the output of the E46 M3

414bhp... that's 309kW. Not bad at all.

Its kinda funny... we've just hit those kind of numbers here in FPV and HSV trim.. and the big German three (Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW) are putting that power into smaller, lighter packages. Crazy.

Well maybe FPV and HSV might want to look into weight reduction technology or would i be right in assuming the cost wouldnt be feasible?

Wonder how it will stack up against AMGs new 6.3L V8 set to pump out 373kW and 630Nm, though I doubt this engine will be in a C-Class to comete with the new M3, maybe a smaller capacity version?

I think the current C55 AMG will stay for a while yet. 5.4litre SOHC 24v V8, 270kW (362hp) and 510Nm (376ftlbs).

I don't mean to be rude, but you do know that the design of the german and japan engines make a complete mockery our of 6L V8's? No real suprise. Granted though, for FPV to introduce the kind of technology M Spec Beamers have, you'll be looking at a price bracket out of every person who would consider a Ford anyway.

Did you know the LS2 is capable of a whole lot more then 297kW 530Nm? Did you know the Boss290 is also capable of a whole lot more then 290kW 520Nm? I think its more to do with the issues of an Aussie manufacturer releasing a ultra powerful car for $60k then engine limitations. Remember 1972? I don't think Ford or Holden have forgotten the events that year.

It's got more to do with warranty issues and development costs and standard car compliance - emission levels, noise etc

Of course it is. Have a read of a review of the 05 M5, and have a look at the technology it's got, far beyond than just the kw/torque of the engine which make it droolworthy.

That looks awesome!

The motor doesn't sound bad on paper either. Damn this thing will move. At least it will push down the price of a second hand E46 M3 further so I can afford one in 5 years time maybe.

:(

I love the M cars, but AMG are up there as well..

The pic looks good ... but my favourite is still the E46 Bimmers ... and as BA GT-HO mentioned ... the 2nd hand price in the next five years will be within a reachable range ... hee hee.

I can only dream
