Hey guys,
After having the EA sitting in the garage for a few weeks I decided to take it for a fang to the gym last Friday night to clear out the cob webs and clean the layer of dust off it. Some of you know it's not in the best shape at the moment and needs some TLC, but I was giving it a fanging anyway. So, anywho, got home and noticed a trail of water behind the car :( Turns out the metal heater pipe that goes around the back of the motor busted it's guts in the form of maybe a 2mm hole just above the starter motor, shooting water towards the head. Is there any easy way to fix this? Keeping in mind there's very little access to get hands in but there might be just enough space to squeeze on some miracle stop leak crap. I want to take it to the drags :o( Sooooo close to giving up and getting something newer like a XR6 Turbo. I haven't worked on a car in ages (only maintenance on the EL) and it's the best. Sundeep |

Dont do it, keep that car!! If you ever sold it you'd be regretting it forever. I know Mikal (EVLELF) regrets selling his EA.
Anytime I bring a mate on a cruise and they see your car, its one they dont stop talking about. Clearly one of the clubs best cars. |

it may be one of the best cars, but the e-series are becoming more and more like x-series. An old time ford that no-one really cares about anymore.
It's sad but true. I mean, a BFMkII XR6 Turbo 6 speed, already has the T56, bullet proof engine and awesome turbo running gear. They can look really nice too, and are better to drive, have better brakes, etc. I wouldn't spend money on an e-series anymore, you may as well burn your money instead.

Rip that pipe out altogether and put a welsch plug in the back of the water pump.
Then, buy a warm jacket. :P |

Sunny, i cant even picture the pipe your talking about, but id say fixing it right this time will save a headache later down the track? Youll never stop working on cars - you love it. Keep the EA even if you get a XR6 Turbo!!!

Where there is will there is a way...finding someone with slim hands (preferably double jointed!)?
I just went out and had a look at ours... if I were going to do this I would be taking the rocker cover off to allow a little more room between the back of the engine and the firwall, unbolting the extractors, thus allowing the pipe to be removed from the back of the water pump. Then rotating the pipe to the passenger side (this is where you need slim/double jointed hands!) undoing to the clamp to the rubber hosing with one hand sqwished between the firwall and back of the inlet manifold and another through the hole between 3rd and 4th inlets (have i lost you yet?). Lastly roatating the pipe forward to clear inlet maniflod. An easier way then this... can't think of one! They did make these cars for men to work on! As others have said, don't get rid of it you'll kick yourself later. And you still have to fix the pipe regardless... |

My heater core dropped it's guts when the turbo went on (couldn't handle the power ;)) so I just by-passed the heater box altogether. I still want a XR6 turbo. I probably wouldn't sell the EA. It would just sit there for ages and I'd drive the XR6 around, maybe slam it and put the MRDOSE plates on it Been on my mind for a while. Sundeep |

No comparison!! Sounds like it can be easily fixed sunny. But maybe a temporary quick fix solution.

As if you'll ever sell it, how many times have you gone through this phase now?

I don't know how you can compare a standard BA XR6T to a highly modified EA Turbo?
Of course the BA is going to look plain in front of it.

I can't see the pics :( ATEC your idea is also good. Might give that a crack if I can fit a screwdriver in there. Problem is if it leaks on the track then I wont pass scrutineering at Heathcote if I go now. Cheapest XR6 Turbo no Carsales is exactly $20k. It's got too many kays :( $24k will buy a fully optioned Mark I. There seems to be no price difference between manual and auto models either. Sundeep Last edited by Sundeep; 14-05-2007 at 03:21 PM. |

Dont worry about selling it.. Just buy the BA XR6T motor instead of the whole car, will look more classy in a E-Series anyways ;)

XR6T. Dump it on some 20s. Then get a venetian for the rear window. Also ditch the spoiler <3 Chuck the MRDOSE plates on it. I feel like having a hand party just thinking about it.

BA XR6T motor in a EA is on the drawing board but until time or a cheap XR6 T motor conversion permits I won't be able to even contemplate starting. This turbo convesion's been pretty reliable none the less. Loves to go through the turbo gasket's but that's about it. Any one want to buy the turbo kit, the whole lot? After I run a 13 and make 200kW of course. Sundeep |
