This isnt like the poxy version that came out in the 90s.
Looks actually decent. Check out the trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VADCr...eature=popular Thoughts?

Yeah saw this a couple of days ago, looks OK but really went in the other direction didnt they? Have since found out this "short movie" is being used to try and "reinvent" the movie franchise to try and get a 3rd film made or other series in the movies.
Rather the "old" story e.g sub-zero kills scorpions family and scorpian (human form) then scorpian comes back from hell for revenge. Reptile IS a reptile - a personal guard of the king of outworld. Barakka is the leader of the outworld army. NOT serial killers, cops and robbers

So its just to stir interest. There is no intention of making another movie?

Stir interest in the public and get the distributor onboard. I manage a movie theatre in Perth so if they do announce anything e.g release date ill post it up though i highly doubt it considering the franchise was more popular in the 90s.

Seems a little different to the original story. I still look forward to seeing it.

The director made this with funds supplied by Warner bros (who bought midway and hence own the rights). It's more of a pilot for a 3 film movie series. Warner will give a go/no go on the project by the end of the year. There is also a delay as the makers of the mortal kombat tv show (it was trash) claim the have a right to the IP.

Anybody who had a clue about gaming was a fan of Mortal Kombat at the time. It was the best alternative to Street Fighter II, and ripping heads off and tearing hearts out was just so novel for a kid of 9 in 1992.
Of course, the local TimeZone eliminated the blood (switch in the game) because they were a 'family friendly centre', while just around the corner you had Warriors of Fate - a side scrolling beat-em-up where you can cut people in half... Mortal Kombat II was the peak for me. That game simply whooped.

I always thought that the "Mortal Kombat" tournament was fighters from different worlds bought together to fight and stuff.
This here makes it look like they're all human (or at least started that way!) on Earth, with Shang Tsung being an underground figure organising a fight. Oh well, might be a good action flick regardless. Trailer isn't too bad.

I still think the fighting looks over choreographed and 'pretty'. I like the characters and a more serious version of the first movie would be interesting but as someone on imdb said, if there's no babalities, i'm not interested

Would love to see a mortal kombat movie based along the lines of the short film.
I reckon it would be pretty awesome |
